Our Harvest of the Month for January is carrots! Carrots are a great staple vegetable and can be added to many recipes or eaten alone. Did you know these fun facts about carrots?
1. Carrots have been around for about 5000 years.
2. The most common color carrot we see is orange, but did you know that they can grow in purple, white, yellow, or red tones!
3. Baby carrots were formed by a farmer not wanting to discard blemished carrots. This farmer started cutting and pealing carrots to remove blemishes and look better.
4. Carrots are a root vegetable that can be left in the ground all winter!
5. Nearly 94% of American carrot production is grown in California, Texas, Washington, Michigan, Florida, Colorado and Wisconsin. Go Wisconsin!
