Glad we got loaders now!

Today, loading gravel seems like a fairly simple task, but 100 years ago it was quite a process. Behind the horse on the bridge is a fresno, as pictured in the early 1900s. A fresno was a wheelbarrow-like device that scooped up and held gravel, and then dropped in through the cracks in the bridge into a wagon below. In this photo, a deposit is being made while another horse and fresno wait in line.
