Emergency Oxygen Tank Filling Station

In partnership with the State of Michigan 5th district we are pleased to offer FREE oxygen tank filling at the department over the next few days for those still suffering from a loss of power.

Residents must bring their empty oxygen tanks with them as staff will not be providing tanks.

Hours for fills over the neat few days will be:

Saturday, June 13th, 2026 3-5pm

Sunday, June 14th, 2026 10-12 and 2-4 pm

Residents should enter the city parking lot from behind the library and drive between city hall and the public safety department to the red trailer.

On March 15 at approximately 1:45 AM, officers with the Sturgis Department of Public Safety were dispatched to the area of Meijer for a felony retail fraud and a hit and run accident. The suspect vehicle was gone prior to officers arrival, but they were able to locate the vehicle a short time later.

When officers attempted a traffic stop, the suspect vehicle fled from police. The vehicle was a U-Haul truck and at the time officers observed it, it was driving without its lights. The vehicle crashed on Franks Avenue and both the driver and passenger fled on foot. A female suspect was detained and later arrested on numerous felony charges to include probation violation and resisting and obstructing arrest.

A warrant request was submitted for the male suspect (driver) for numerous felony charges to include fleeing and eluding, resisting obstructing arrest, retail fraud first, and possession of methamphetamine.
