After 26 years of dedicated service as our Fire Chief, we wish Chief Max Kulpinski a very happy and well-deserved retirement! His leadership has been the backbone of this department for over two decades, and we thank him for his years of sacrifice and steady hand.

As we celebrate his retirement, we are proud to introduce our new leadership team. Chief Scott Mingus now takes the helm to lead us forward, joined by Assistant Chief Clinton Lehman, who has already been serving the department in this capacity for the past year.
Please join us in honoring Chief Kulpinski’s 26-year career and welcoming Chief Mingus and Assistant Chief Lehman into their roles! 👨‍🚒🚩

What to know for Sturgis:

🌬️ TONIGHT (Until Midnight): We remain under a Wind Advisory. Expect south winds gusting up to 55 mph.

⛈️ TONIGHT: A Thunderstorm Watch is active. These storms could bring heavy rain and lightning before the cold air hits.

❄️ MONDAY – TUESDAY: We transition to a Winter Weather Advisory (8 AM Monday – 11 AM Tuesday). We are looking at 2–5 inches of snow, but the real danger is the wind.

⚠️ BLOWING SNOW: Northwest gusts of 30–40 mph will cause near-zero visibility and whiteout conditions.

📢 EMERGENCY REMINDER: With 55 mph gusts, expect downed trees and power lines. Stay away from any down lines. Never assume a line is "dead"—treat every wire as if it is live and dangerous.

Stay off the roads if you can, and stay safe!

Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Allegan, Barry, Berrien, Branch, Calhoun, Cass, Eaton, Hillsdale, Ingham, Jackson, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph and Van Buren County in MI until 2:00am EDT.

We have lost a brother, father, firefighter, farmer, community leader, and much more. Firefighter Schlabach served our community since 2005. During the toughest of times, that smile never left his face. The world is a better place because of him. Rest in Peace, 681. You will not be forgotten. We have it from here.

We thank our local Fire Departments that came out and helped support and honor Firefighter Schlabach.

Stay clear of downed wires and never assume the power is off. Wires will often lay silent and energized as this one did over and over until the utility company disconnected the power.
