The Stuyvesant Fire District No. 1 and Board of Fire Commissioners are proud to announce our building renovation project is now open to bid.

Sealed bids must be received by the District at the station by 3 PM on October 5, 2026, with the opening to follow that same day.

State Route 9J over Mill Creek (the area of Swyer Preserve) in Stuyvesant was damaged during the historic rainfall last week.

NYS DOT has told us that the road will remain closed between County Route 26A and the County line while repairs are made. The State has hired a contractor and expects the closure to be in place for approximately 4 weeks. Below is a detour map that DOT has provided us with. Local traffic can continue to Gibbons Rd north of 26a . Local traffic can continue south of the county line to just south of Schoolhouse Rd .

NOTICE TO STUYVESANT RESIDENTS & BUSINESSES

Following the historic heavy rainfall and flash flooding that impacted our area on July 29, 2026, the Stuyvesant Fire Company is asking any residents or businesses that sustained damage to please complete the New York State Damage Self-Reporting Survey.

If your home or business experienced flooding, water damage, property damage, or other storm-related damage, please submit a report even if you have already cleaned up or made repairs.

These reports are important. They help New York State determine the overall extent of the damage in our community and throughout Columbia County. If damages are significant enough, the State may seek a Presidential Disaster Declaration, which is necessary before FEMA assistance can be considered.

Submitting the survey does not guarantee FEMA assistance, but every report helps provide a more accurate picture of how severely our area was impacted.

This survey is for homes and businesses only. Damage to roads, bridges, public buildings, and other public infrastructure is reported separately by local government.

We encourage everyone who experienced damage from the July 29 storm to complete the survey and help make sure Stuyvesant’s damages are accurately represented.

Yesterday’s historic rainfall brought significant flooding and challenging conditions throughout our community. As things begin to settle down, we would like to take a moment to thank everyone who helped during the response.

Over the course of the storm, the Stuyvesant Fire Company responded to 24 emergency calls, including flooded roadways, public service calls for flooded basements and pump-outs, a structure fire, and wires down with fire. Our members worked throughout the day and into the evening to protect our community during this historic weather event.

A special thank you to and for their generous food donations that kept our firefighters fueled during the response. Your support was truly appreciated.

We would also like to thank our local highway departments for their outstanding work clearing roads and restoring access, as well as for coordinating the high volume of emergency calls and ensuring resources were dispatched where they were needed most.

Finally, thank you to our dedicated firefighters who answered the call without hesitation and spent countless hours serving our community. We are also grateful to the residents of Stuyvesant for your patience, understanding, and support throughout this event.

🚨 Stuyvesant Fire District No. 1 –Flooded Roads ⚠️

Due to the significant rainfall, multiple roads throughout the Stuyvesant Fire District are currently flooded and impassable. Several roadways have water flowing across them, with strong currents, debris, and washed-out shoulders creating extremely hazardous conditions.

Please do not attempt to drive through flooded roadways. Even shallow moving water can carry a vehicle off the roadway, and you cannot see what is beneath the surface.

If you encounter a flooded road:
🚫 Turn around—don’t drive through it.
🚧 Obey all road closures and barricades.
📞 Call 911 if you have an emergency.

Our firefighters and local highway crews are actively responding to storm-related incidents and working to keep our community safe. Please avoid unnecessary travel, use extreme caution, and give emergency vehicles plenty of room to operate.
