The Town is considering a temporary data center moratorium, a pause to study the real impacts before more of these projects land in our backyard: the energy demand, environmental, economic impacts, the noise, the wetlands, etc.
A temporary pause is the right step, But as proposed, it would study future data centers while letting DataBank Phase II move forward. That carves out the one project already at our doorstep. It studies the danger and exempts the source.
Here is what should alarm everyone. The only thing said to make this project "permitted" is a 17-year-old, decision attributed to a building inspector from years ago. A position from nearly two decades ago is being used to wave through a massive data center today next to a protected reservoir, around the Town's own current plan. That is not following the rules. That is sneaking past them.
The Town's own 2023 Comprehensive Plan says data centers are not a permitted use here. The Town's consultant agrees. Rockland County agrees. A 17-year-old decision ( where no record of it has been provided) cannot override the plan the Town board adopted in 2023.
And there is no legal reason to leave Phase II out. It has no final approval and no building permit. The Town can lawfully include this project. It should.
A temporary moratorium that protects the developer instead of the community is not protection at all.
So we are asking for one thing, plainly. Include DataBank Phase II in the temporary moratorium. The same rules. The same scrutiny. For everyone.

🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ Happy Pride Month.

While all eyes are on Delaney Hall and the media horrors never cease, let's be clear about what's actually happening and why it matters during Pride Month and every day after.

Pride didn't start as a celebration. It started as a riot. LGBTQIA+ activists fought, bled, and died for the right to exist with dignity.

That same fight is still alive right now.

So don't pick just one thing to defend. Use this month to make noise every👏single👏day👏. Call your reps about trans rights. Demand immigration reform. Push back on the gutting of voting rights and the proposed mail-in ballot changes.

Every one of these attacks chips away at the freedom Pride was built on. The activists who came before us didn't fight this hard for us to stay quiet.

Join Citizen Action of New York in Suffern for a peaceful protest against Donald Trump and Mike Lawler’s attacks on working families across NY-17.

As rents grow unaffordable, grocery and utility bills climb higher, and more families struggle just to get by, Republicans in Washington are pushing devastating cuts to healthcare, housing, food assistance, and public education while handing out more tax breaks to billionaires and large corporations.

Working people are being asked to sacrifice while the wealthy continue to cash in. These reckless policies threaten the stability of seniors, students, immigrants, children, and families across the Hudson Valley who rely on essential services to survive and thrive.

Indivisible Rockland will be standing with the Nyack and Spring Valley chapters of the NAACP as they respond to the upcoming Trump visit orchestrated by Mike Lawler.

Lawler continues to show Rockland County that he doesn’t care about us. This time could be spent fighting to protect our immigrant neighbors, creating affordable housing for young Americans and families, and helping the next generation to thrive. Instead, all he and his unwanted guest have brought are spiking gas and grocery prices and the erasure of hard fought voting rights that benefit all Americans.

Mike Lawler does not deserve to represent us in Congress.

Tuesday, May 19th. School Budget & Board Elections Across Rockland

Public schools are on the ballot.

Every Rockland district holds its annual budget vote and school board elections this Tuesday, and these races matter. Boards set policy, hire superintendents, and shape what happens in our kids' classrooms.

Vote YES on your district's budget. Strong budgets keep teachers in classrooms, programs running, and services intact.

Do your homework on board candidates. Look for candidates endorsed by your district's teachers' association. Educators know who actually shows up for public schools.

Some seats are uncontested, but contested races deserve your attention.

Check your district's website for polling locations and times.

Hours vary by district. Don't assume, confirm before you go.

Public schools work when communities show up.

See you at the polls.
