As a small nonprofit, Healthy Suffolk strives to be on the leading edge of advancements that help us leverage our capacity to better serve our community. With a grant from the Virginia Foundation for Healthy Youth and this training from Catch-A-Fire, we received our first session of AI training from Damien Griffin’s company, Thoughts Brewing. Our thoughts truly were brewing after this and our fires were fueled to find creative, productive, and ethical ways to utilize this technology to advance our mission. More to come!

Rain or shine our new murals are a delight at our community garden at Chuckatuck. The rain keeps our rain barrel full and generous contributions keep our little free garden library well stocked.

Our Healthy Community Advisory Team met today and discussed the community fridge/pantry project spearheaded by a vision Harper Bradshaw had along with partners, ForKids and the Suffolk Public Library, to provide food and essential items to the most vulnerable in our community. Healthy Suffolk supports this project and we hope you will too. Reach out to ForKids to determine how you can help stock the fridge and pantry. It is a worthy cause and an example of how our community partners for the greater good.

Are you working with young people to help them learn to grow food? If so, consider sending us an email to participate in our gardening gift certificate program in partnership with Johnson’s Gardens. You will be amazed at how far $20 will go at a garden center compared to the high prices of produce at the grocery store. Teach gardening literacy and equip children to grow their own food. A worthwhile investment to improve food access. Email us at [email protected] by noon June 28 with the ages of the children you are working with and the name of your program. Happy gardening!
