With frigid temperatures continuing this week, Sugar Grove Fire Protection District wants to remind our community to stay safe and warm:
Heating Safety:

Keep space heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn
Never leave heating equipment unattended
Have your chimney inspected and cleaned annually
Never use your oven or stovetop to heat your home

Fire Prevention:

Test your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors monthly
Keep a working fire extinguisher accessible
Never leave candles burning unattended
Ensure dryer vents are clear and lint-free

Protect Your Home:

Let faucets drip slightly to prevent frozen pipes
Know where your water shut-off valve is located
Keep cabinet doors open to allow warm air to reach pipes
Disconnect and drain outdoor hoses

Personal Safety:

Dress in layers when going outside
Check on elderly neighbors and family members
Limit time outdoors in extreme cold
Watch for signs of frostbite and hypothermia

Stay warm and stay safe!
