On April 23, 2026, the Village of Sugar Grove's Water Treatment Plant sustained damage as the result of a lightning strike.
Thanks to the immediate response of our Water and Wastewater Operators, Village staff, and contractors, water service to our residents was maintained and the impact to the community was minimized. Many residents were unaware that a significant event had occurred because of the quick actions taken to protect the Village's water system.

The Village has filed an insurance claim and continues to work through the repair and replacement process. While additional repairs may still be identified, we are grateful for the dedication and professionalism demonstrated by everyone involved in responding to this event.
The Board of Public Affairs and Village Council would like to thank our operators and staff for their commitment to protecting one of the Village's most important public services.

Today, the Village of Sugar Grove pauses to honor and remember the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. Their sacrifice secured the freedoms we enjoy each and every day, and for that, we remain forever grateful.
We also extend our deepest appreciation to all who have served, those who continue to serve, and the generations who will answer the call in the future. Service to this nation comes in many forms, and every role matters.
Today, we would especially like to recognize one of our own — Steve Shaw — for his service in the United States Army from 1983 to 1985. Like so many veterans, Steve speaks about his service with humility, but true service is never measured by titles or recognition. It is measured by sacrifice, dedication, and a willingness to stand for something greater than oneself. Men like Steve represent the quiet strength that has carried this country through generations.
Thank you, Steve, and thank you to all veterans, active-duty service members, and military families for your sacrifice, courage, and commitment.
May we never forget those who gave everything for this country.
