Police searching for driver after Sugar Land officer injured during traffic stop

A Sugar Land police officer was injured during a traffic stop Tuesday night, and the driver involved fled the scene, according to investigators.

SLPD is proud to be part of an incredible team working behind the scenes to help keep our community safe.

Throughout the World Cup viewing parties, representatives from SLPD, Texas Department of Emergency Management, Texas Department of Public Safety, US National Weather Service Houston-Galveston Texas, City of Sugar Land Emergency Management, Sugar Land Fire Department, and City leadership came together in the Emergency Operations Center to monitor weather conditions and public safety, share information, and coordinate response efforts.

A tremendous amount of planning, preparation, and collaboration goes into protecting our residents and visitors before, during, and after large community events. We are thankful for the dedicated professionals who work around the clock to serve our community and help ensure Sugar Land remains safe, prepared, and resilient.

A few months ago y’all may remember we held a fundraiser for our brother Ryan Berg to help him as he battles cancer. Well we are so happy to announce Ryan has rung the bell at MD Anderson today signifying that he has finished his chemotherapy.

Sugar Land Fire Department and mutual aid crews are currently working a structure fire in the Sugar Creek area near Broadmoor Drive.

Expect emergency vehicles for an extended period, and avoid the area if possible.

We will provide an update when more information becomes available.

Update: The fire is under control, and all residents were reported safe. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
