The relationship that exists between and St. Theresa Catholic Church is beautiful and fruitful! When Mrs. Perich from the parish garden ministry offered a competition for the best student artist to transform the trash can in the parish garden, little did anyone know how absolutely lovely this new addition to the garden would be!

Kylie won the competition and painted this once dull trash can, transforming it into a symbolic piece of art to beautify the parish grounds. Well done Kylie and thank you to the garden ministry for a chance for the school and parish to collaborate more!

“In human life, Joseph was Jesus’ teacher in their daily contact, full of refined affection, glad to deny himself to take better care of Jesus. Isn’t that reason enough for us to consider this just man, this holy patriarch, in whom the faith of the Old Covenant comes to full fruition, as a master of interior life? Interior life is nothing but continual and direct conversation with Christ, so as to become one with him. And Joseph can tell us many things about Jesus. Therefore, never neglect devotion to him—Ite ad Ioseph: “Go to Joseph”—as Christian tradition puts it in the words of the Old Testament (Gen 41:55)” - St. Thomas Aquinas

No longer naïve little children starting their first day of school almost a decade ago, these eighth graders graduating today are now young men and women. Through the years these students have gained an exceedingly rare classical education, impressively grown in virtue, deepened their understanding and expression of their Catholic faith, and honed various life skills that will serve them well on their individual paths to eternity with God. Congratulations Eighth Grade ! will miss you immensely and is excited to see where God's plan takes you next.

Congratulations to each kindergartener who finished the school year with a fervor for learning and for the Catholic faith! Mrs. Rysz’s original poem in the style of Dr. Seuss from the kindergarten program captures our sentiments better than anyone else could.

Kindergarten by the Numbers
By: Mrs. Rysz
After a whole year of Kindergarten,
That is- 180 school days.
16 sweet girls and 10 fun boys
Have grown in infinite ways.
So I did some math, I broke it all down, as any teacher would.
All of the numbers, all of the memories,
That made our year more than just good.
52 is the number of phonograms learned
50 the states they can name.
26 home addresses memorized
90 times we played a math game!
Dr. Seuss books? We read about 40
Aesop stories, I think 44
Plus 852 times that you asked me
To please read a little bit more.
104 math books and workbooks completed.
13 poems we all shared out loud,
265 spelling words- with markings!
That alone should make everyone proud.
23- the loose teeth that you all lost this year,
18 projects hung outside in the hall.
3 of you welcomed new baby brothers,
Plus 1 sister coming this fall.
Unus million- the times you sang that song from Latin,
9,000 times you yelled “I am done!”
You played for 226 recesses
Hail Marys prayed- 1,001.
It took 6,000 tissues to wipe all your noses
10 million bandaids made every hurt better.
And 509 pencils were sharpened
To write every number and letter.
You shared about 162 glue sticks
To keep all your artwork together
We had 3 picnic lunches, but 1 field day inside
Because of the inclement weather.
I’m pretty sure I gave out like 8,000 stickers
To tell you your work was so fine.
For coloring your drawings, and papers, and crafts,
Crayons used were 1,009.
The times that we counted you all up in a line
Was 972.
10 fire drills, 70 spelling tests,
Washing hands was a billion plus 2.
The treasure box was refilled 26 times,
To make sure that you got what you earned.
Report cards and progress reports- 8 in all,
To remind you of all that you learned.
We celebrated one Astros World Series win
Came to school in our orange and blue
Had a sweet saint procession, one day in pajamas,
And one exhausting field trip to the zoo!

3,000 Clorox wipes cleaned up all your messes,
12 Lysol cans were sprayed pretty thick,
Yet between strep and pneumonia, and flu A or B
28 of us at some point got sick.
I could go on counting, like papers and markers
Erasers and all of those things,
Or homeworks, or emails, or trips to the nurse,
And all Kindergarten life brings.
While some of these numbers I may have made up,
Some are the actual amount.
I would like to mention, in this Kindergarten,
The best things are ones we can’t count.
I can’t put a number on hugs that you gave me,
Or the laughter we shared every day.
The stories you told, the pictures you made me,
And hilarious things you’d all say.
Or the times that you beamed with such pride and excitement
All your fun block creations, and art,
The songs that you sang, the prayers you said,
That for dozens of days touched my heart.
I know you learned so much this year; not just counting,
Go on learning as much as you wish,
And when you’re in first grade, or fifth grade, or eighth,
You can always come count on Ms. Jones and Mrs. Rysz.

When it comes to the cultivation of virtue, the House System is the perfect avenue for just that. The House System consists of smaller, organized communities among the student body grades 5 - 8, led by a faculty mentor. Each House competed against each other in the Annual House Academic Tournament, and the day turned out to be as fulfilling as it was entertaining. Congrats to all competitors and to the winners, House of Hildegard!

Griffin highlight: Dr. K., Eighth Grade

Background: I was raised on a small, idyllic Canadian farm, the eighth of thirteen children. I loved growing up around so many siblings and farm animals. I moved to Texas right after I graduated from university, having heard of Saint Theresa's from a fellow student in Toronto. I accepted the job, moved down on a whim, and it was one of the best choices I've ever made!

Education: B.A. Saint Michael's College; M.A. University of Toronto; Ph.D. Centre for Medieval Studies

Favorite part of STCS: Seeing my students crowd around my infant daughter, Mary Snow.

Favorite part of the school year so far: Seeing my students slowly mature into virtuous young men and women.

Saint who Inspires him: Saint Joseph

When parents are engaged in their child's school, the student's education becomes much more than just passing a standardized exam. Boys and girls with parents who are involved excel across the board. When it comes to active parents, stands apart from the rest. As the Saint Theresa Association of Parents (STAP) meets for the last time tonight this school year, don't forget to take a minute to step back and appreciate the phenomenal community of families we are blessed with.

At Saint Theresa Catholic School education is about forming the whole person. While the academic rigor we bring to the classroom helps shape the minds of your young boys and girls, the faith formation these students receive at STCS is uniquely Catholic. Where else do you find a Catholic school where your children’s teachers prioritize taking 15 minutes in the middle of the school day to adore Our Lord in the most Holy Eucharist?
