Thank you to the Fort Bend Regional Partnership for hosting today's discussion on the future of Fort Bend County and for bringing together community leaders to discuss the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. Thank you to all of the members of Commissioners Court for taking part.

I appreciated the opportunity to join my fellow commissioners in sharing our vision for what must be done between now and 2050 to keep Fort Bend County strong, safe and prosperous. As our population approaches 1 million residents and continues growing, we must think beyond the challenges of today and plan for the needs of future generations.

That means investing in transportation, water infrastructure, energy reliability, workforce development and economic growth while preserving the quality of life that makes Fort Bend County such a special place to live, work and raise a family.

The Fort Bend 2050 Report provides valuable data and insights to help guide these conversations, and I look forward to continuing to work with business leaders, educators, local governments and community stakeholders to ensure Fort Bend County remains one of the best places in America to call home.

Road Closures Continue on Grand Parkway and Fort Bend Parkway

Motorists traveling along the Grand Parkway and Fort Bend Parkway will encounter several lane and ramp closures this week as construction and maintenance work continues, according to project officials.

Grand Parkway Frontage Road Closure

The northbound right lane of the SH 99 frontage road at Peek Road remains closed through July 1 as part of a long-term construction project.

Daytime Lane Closures on SH 99

Drivers can expect alternating rolling lane closures on the main lanes of SH 99 on Tuesday, June 23. Work will take place at multiple locations north of West Bellfort Avenue, Bellaire Boulevard, Bella Terra Boulevard and the Westpark Tollway.

The rolling closures are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Overnight Closures at Bellaire Boulevard

Alternating northbound and southbound main lane closures on SH 99 at Bellaire Boulevard will continue through June 24.

The overnight closures are scheduled daily from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Westpark Tollway

No lane closures are currently scheduled on the Westpark Tollway.

Fort Bend Parkway Ramp Closure

The northbound entrance ramp from Hillcroft Avenue to the Fort Bend Parkway remains fully closed as part of a long-term project.

The 24-hour closure began May 1 and is expected to remain in place through July 12.

Drivers are encouraged to allow extra travel time, watch for changing traffic patterns and follow posted signage in work zones.

Intermittent Lane Closures on US-59/I-69 Frontage Roads

Intermittent lane closures on the US-59/I-69 Frontage roads are scheduled to begin on July 1, 2026, to facilitate the addition of mulch to the landscaping. Inside lane closures will occur daily beginning at 7 a.m. until July 10.

The first part of the project will take place between the US-90A / US-59/I-69 intersection and Williams Trace Blvd. The second part will be between Sweetwater Blvd the City Limits. Inside lane closures will occur on the North and Southbound Frontage roads in the designated areas.

On Friday, I had the honor of joining the ribbon cutting for the new Barbara Jordan Community Center at Barbara Jordan Park in Needville — fittingly held on Juneteenth!

This facility is another Parks Bond project, made possible by Fort Bend County voters who continue to invest in our parks system.

I want to extend a special thank you to Commissioner Grady Prestage for shepherding this project through from the very beginning. His dedication to seeing this through to completion will benefit residents in this community for generations to come.

There's a fitting connection between Friday's date and the name on this park. Juneteenth commemorates the moment the news of freedom reached Texas, and Barbara Jordan's career reflects the progress that followed. She was the first African American elected to the Texas Senate since Reconstruction, the first woman descendant of American slavery elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, and one of the first two African Americans elected to the U.S. House from the former Confederacy since 1901.

Honoring her legacy on Juneteenth felt like the right way to open a space built for our community to gather.

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate this milestone, and congratulations to all of Fort Bend County on this new addition to our parks system!

Fort Bend Transit is conducting a survey to better understand the transportation needs of Fort Bend County residents and identify ways to improve public transit options for commuters.

If you travel to Downtown Houston or the Energy Corridor for work or other purposes, I encourage you to take a few minutes to share your feedback. The survey takes about 3 minutes to complete, and your input will help shape future transit planning and services in our community.

The survey will remain open through July 1.

FORT BEND COUNTY ROAD CLOSURES TO IMPACT TRAFFIC ON MAJOR TOLLWAYS

FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas (AP) — Motorists traveling on major toll roads in Fort Bend County should expect lane and ramp closures through the coming weeks as contractors conduct maintenance and infrastructure work along the Grand Parkway, Westpark Tollway and Fort Bend Parkway.

Grand Parkway

A long-term closure remains in effect on the northbound right lane of the State Highway 99 frontage road at Peek Road. The closure began June 1 and is scheduled to continue through July 1, according to project officials.

Drivers on the Grand Parkway also will encounter alternating southbound main lane closures at the Westpark Tollway interchange on June 18. The closures are scheduled from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. as crews perform roadway work.

Westpark Tollway

On the Westpark Tollway, inside lanes in both directions near the Grand Parkway interchange will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 18 for center barrier drain slot cleaning. Maintenance crews will alternate closures in the eastbound and westbound directions during the work.

Fort Bend Parkway

A long-term closure continues on the northbound Hillcroft Avenue entrance ramp to the Fort Bend Parkway. The ramp has been closed since May 1 and is expected to remain closed around the clock through July 12.

Additional overnight lane closures are planned on the Fort Bend Parkway near Lake Olympia. Alternating southbound main lane closures are scheduled from 9 p.m. June 18 until 5 a.m. June 19.

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and watch for posted traffic control devices in work zones.
