My granddaughter enjoyed a lot..๐๐๐
As a Sugar Land resident my family and I have really enjoyed having Cullinan Park so close to our home. We take a lot of pride in showing it off to friends and family when we have visitors and taking every opportunity to hike and bike in the park. In my experience, the local mountain bikers have been incredibly thoughtful and proactive in maintaining and protecting the local trails, including the trails at Cullinan Park.
That's why it's very disappointing to learn that bikes will no longer be allowed in the park. If it's a safety concern, I think it is completely unfounded as I ride these trails almost daily and have never experienced or seen anything remotely close to a safety issue with bikers and walkers on the trails.
Furthermore, without regular bike use I fear many of these trails will become overgrown and lost forever. Volunteers in the Sugar Land mountain biking community are absolutely instrumental in maintaining many of the outdoor trails that both walkers and riders enjoy. Without bikers regularly using these trails, they WILL become overgrown and unusable. It's only a matter of time.
To top it all off, my first trip to the park after learning about the new rules prohibiting bikes was... well, terrible. The trails are COMPLETELY impassable due to the negligence of horse-riders.
Only yards from the "No Bikes Allowed" signs the trail is completely destroyed and covered in horse p**p. It continues this way the entire length of the trail - I could have taken hundreds of pictures.
I hope the powers-at-be will reconsider the new rules prohibiting bikes. At the very least, something needs to be done about the horse-owners who are actually damaging the park that we know and love.

Does anyone know when pawm springs dog park opens from the maintenance?
Hey! Just wondering, when is the River Park splash pad going to open?
Could someone point me to the article or announcement of what work is going on at Memorial Park? I canโt seem to find any details of what looks like a road going in for some reason.
Thank you
Oyster Creek Park - how can anyone think it's ok to dump their trash in the grass (especially when the trash can is 40 feet away) ?
The most recent info on the "Bird City Texas" program. I checked the Application Portal, and it appears that Sugar Land has not yet applied. With an amazing place like Cullinan Park in our city, I think we need to get with it and get certified by this Texas program.

Applications Being Accepted for This Yearโs Bird City Texas Program
AUSTIN โ The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and Audubon Texas are now accepting applications for the Bird City Texas Programโs (BCT) community certification. Communities selected each year must meet certain criteria showing how their city is working to protect birds and their habitat.
โWe are seeing community leaders emerge in the field of conservation,โ said Olivia Schmidt, BCT Coordinator for TPWD. โPeople truly care about birds, their habitat and the future generations that we will leave these resources to. Through this program, we are able to recognize the incredible dedication these communities have for wildlife and conservation and acknowledge the tremendous amount of work they do to make sure birds have a special place in their community.โ
The BCT program, which recognizes the work communities are doing in the name of bird conservation, awards towns with the certification of โBird Cityโ based on accomplishments in three categories: community education and engagement, habitat management and improvement and threat removal to help birds.
Four communities were certified in January 2020 during BCTโs inaugural year: Bastrop, Dallas, Houston and Port Aransas. BCT partners used feedback from the pilot year to streamline and improve the 2020 application process for communities pursuing certification in early 2021. Additional resources are available on the Bird City Texas webpage. We encourage communities interested in BCT certification to review the information on the How to Apply webpage.
โWhile we realize 2020 has been incredibly challenging, we have seen our neighbors, teachers, and community members rise to become leaders in their towns,โ said Yvette Stewart, BCT Coordinator for Audubon Texas. โBird City Texas relies on this same powerful grassroots leadership to make positive environmental changes. Since many communities are already diligently doing the work, we want to recognize and promote their efforts, as well as help inspire new communities to strive for more engagement in their local environments.โ
When birds benefit, people do too! See our FAQ page for more information on how Bird City Texas can help communities statewide, and explore our Application Portal to see if your community has already begun!
