Because we got a wee bit of rain this weekend, we've rescheduled grill burgers for this Friday July 17th!

There will be a grill set up between holes 9 & 10 for a nice way to break up your round and enjoy a bite out on the course. Swing by and say hello!

🐻 Wildlife Activity is Increasing in Our Area 🦌🐺

As warmer weather arrives, we’re seeing increased activity from bears, coyotes, and deer throughout the community. Living in the mountains means sharing space with wildlife, but a few simple precautions can help keep both residents and animals safe.

Please remember:

• Secure all trash properly and never leave loose bags outdoors overnight. Our local trash ordinance requires proper trash storage to help prevent wildlife encounters.
• Do not leave food, drinks, coolers, pet food, or scented items in vehicles.
• Remove bird feeders when bears are active and clean outdoor grills thoroughly after use.
• Keep pets supervised, leashed, or within fenced areas whenever possible.
• Do not feed deer or other wildlife. Supplemental feeding can cause serious health and safety issues.
• Never approach or feed bears or coyotes.

Wildlife that becomes accustomed to human food often loses its natural fear of people, leading to increased conflicts and dangerous situations.

BURN BAN in EFFECT
6PM- 3/28/26

Due to increased fire risk, the North Carolina Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective at 6 p.m. Saturday March 28, 2026 until further notice.

Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to the extinguishment of the fire.

The burn ban issued by the N.C. Forest service does not apply to a fire within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. Local government agencies have jurisdiction over open burning within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling.

Avery County Fire Marshal’s Office has issued a local burning ban effective at 6 p.m. Saturday March 28, 2026. This ban will be in effect until further notice. This ban applies to any open burning within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. Campfires and fire pits are included in this ban and are not exempt.

🔥⚠️IMPORTANT NOTICE⚠️🔥

Public Safety Advisory – Outdoor Burning

At this time, Avery County is not currently under a burn ban. However, due to elevated fire danger conditions, residents are strongly advised to avoid all outdoor burning until conditions improve.

Beginning tomorrow, our area is forecasted to reach Readiness Plan Level 4 (RP-4). This is a high-level fire danger rating used by the North Carolina Forest Service indicating a significant risk of wildfire. Under RP-4 conditions, fires can spread rapidly and typically require increased staffing and additional resources for every woods fire response. As a result, open burning is strongly discouraged during this time.

While some rainfall is expected overnight, it is not anticipated to be sufficient to significantly reduce fire risk.

For clarification:
• A State-issued burn ban restricts burning in areas 100 feet and beyond an occupiable structure.
• A County-issued burn ban applies to the area from an occupiable structure out to 100 feet.

Avery County remains in close coordination with state officials. If the State of North Carolina issues a burn ban, Avery County will immediately follow suit and implement the same restrictions locally.

We urge all residents to use caution and prioritize safety during this period of increased fire risk.
