Sugarcreek Fire & Rescue is going Zoll!

We are excited to announce that we are placing 2 Zoll X Advanced Series Cardiac Monitors into service. These monitors are replacing outdated devices. These new monitors come with several advanced clinical functions that benefit the critically ill patient.

We would like to thank the Reeves Foundation for their continued support, without their grant funding this project would not have been possible.

You will also notice these monitors can be secured to our stretchers keeping everyone safe during transport, they can also be secured to our counter top via the same base plate, that is on the stretcher arm.

New Features:
Live CPR feedback
Real BVM help
Traumatic Brain Injury Dashboard
Continuous SPCO2 Monitoring
Rapid Shock Defibrillation

We are very excited to see how these monitors help us continue to improve our patient care.

Teamwork and Dedication!

When everyone has the same common goal, teamwork comes naturally! This is a photo from an emergency scene, where Cleveland Clinic Critical Care Transport was requested to the scene for transport to a trauma center, also assisting on scene was the Tuscarawas County Sheriffs Department.

Sugarcreek Fire & Rescue is trained and equipped to provide a specialized treatment for patients with severe head injuries: 3% hypertonic saline.

While most people are familiar with "normal saline"β€”the standard fluid used to treat dehydrationβ€”3% hypertonic saline is much more concentrated. When a patient suffers a head injury, the brain can swell, creating dangerous pressure inside the skull. This specialized saline works by drawing that excess fluid away from the brain tissue, which helps reduce swelling and relieves pressure, providing a critical benefit while the patient is being transported to the hospital.

Think of your brain like Sid the sloth, after drinking the salty water his head shrinks, this is an exaggerated example of what 3% saline does to your brain. 🧠

πŸ”₯ FIRE FRIDAY πŸ”₯
Did you know that Sugarcreek Fire & Rescue covers roughly 70 square miles, but only about four miles of that area has fire hydrants?
That lack of ready water access can make fighting fires in our rural areas much more challenging. So how do we get water where the hydrants aren't? The answer is dry hydrants!
Sugarcreek Fire & Rescue maintains 15 dry hydrants spread throughout our coverage area. A dry hydrant is a large non pressureized PVC pipe placed into a local pond, with the property owner's permission, that gives us direct access to that water for firefighting operations. From there, tankers shuttle the water to the scene.
If you see our crews out testing these dry hydrants, that's us making sure they're ready to perform when it counts the most. πŸ’ͺ
Stay safe, and we'll see you next Fire Friday!

Did you know Sugarcreek Fire & Rescue is equipped with Sapphire IV infusion pumps? These IV infusion pumps allow us to provide patients with continuous infusions of all different types of medications and Blood Products. Medications for sedation and to support blood pressure, this is better for the patient and research has shown better outcomes for patients who are placed on continuous infusions over multiple pushes of medication.
