We have had several calls the past few weeks from citizens wanting to take household trash to the County Landfill. The Lamar County Landfill is a C&D Landfill only.

A C&D landfill stands for a Construction and Demolition debris landfill. These specialized waste disposal facilities are designed specifically to accept the debris generated from the construction, renovation, repair, or demolition of buildings, roads, and bridges, NOT for everyday household garbage.

What may go into a C&D landfill?

These landfills exclusively accept materials that are typically non-hazardous and inert. Common materials include:

• Concrete, asphalt, bricks, and masonry
• Lumber and wood products
• Drywall and plaster
• Glass and wiring
• Roofing shingles and plumbing fixtures
• Tree stumps, earth, and rock from land-clearing sites

What is excluded?

C&D landfills are strictly prohibited from accepting household trash, hazardous waste, asbestos, lead-painted materials, and liquid waste. These items must be disposed of in strictly regulated hazardous or standard municipal landfills.

**To dispose of electronics & appliances, please call Plyco Recycling, Inc. in Fayette, AL at 205-932-5182 for more information. Items will have to be taken to their recycling center in Fayette to be disposed of.
