The Moultrie County Sheriff’s Office is located in east-central Illinois and spans 344 square miles. Located within Moultrie County is Lake Shelbyville. Moultrie County offers a rural setting with many opportunities for outdoor recreation. If you are ready to begin a career in law enforcement, apply now with the Moultrie County Sheriff’s Office. Position: Full-time Deputy Sheriff

Union: Fraternal Order of Police

Starting pay: $31.52 - $33.12/hour

Personal Business Time: 16 hours a year

Paid Vacation:

After 1 year 40 hours

After 2-4 years 80 hours

After 5 years 120 hours

After 10 years 160 hours

Paid Sick time: Earned at 8 hours a month

Holiday Benefit: 14 days of Holiday time

Due to inclement weather, the Moultrie County Courthouse will be closed on Monday, January 26, 2026.

It has been reported that rural roads are becoming increasingly hazardous due to drifting snow and windy conditions. It is advisable to avoid traveling on unplowed or drifted roads whenever possible.

Please exercise caution and prioritize your safety. If travel is unavoidable, allow ample time and take necessary precautions to ensure your well-being. Be sure to have a winter safety kit in your vehicle. Stay warm! Stay safe!

Just wanted to remind motorists the daytime running lights typically do not turn the taillights on. Motorists need to turn the lights on manually.

This seems a little early for this post but be sure to give yourself extra time traveling today. Reports coming in day visibility is diminished and the roadways are slick slow down, and give yourself plenty of stopping distance.

On November 8, 2025, starting around 1:00 P.M., a full-scale Active Threat Response training for Moultrie County First Responders will take place at the Hydro-Gear facility (1411 South Hamilton Street, Sullivan, IL 61951). This event is in cooperation with the Moultrie County First Responders and Hydro-Gear. It’s a test of the emergency response and current capabilities of law enforcement and EMS. This training gives first responders and command staff the opportunity to work together in a simulated environment and identify both strengths and areas for improvement.



During this training, community members may notice emergency personnel responses and alarms. Access to the facility and traffic around the area may be restricted or diverted for safety and training reasons. Please note, this is a planned event and there is NO ACTUAL THREAT to the public.
