We have received numerous reports of individuals receiving phone calls from scammers claiming to be officers with the Sulphur Springs Police Department and requesting money.

Please do not fall for this scam. Officers with the Sulphur Springs Police Department will never call you and demand or request money.

Do not provide the caller with personal or financial information, and do not send money.

Please share this information with family and friends to help prevent others from becoming victims.

**Narcotics Investigation Leads to Search Warrant and Additional Charges**

Sulphur Springs Police Department detectives recently conducted an investigation into the distribution of methamphetamine.

During the investigation, detectives obtained three felony arrest warrants for Erick Jerome Sims for Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1, in an amount of four grams or more but less than 200 grams.

Detectives also obtained and executed a search warrant at Sims’ residence. During the search, investigators located methamphetamine, co***ne, and ma*****na.

As a result of the evidence recovered, two additional charges of Manufacture or Delivery of a Controlled Substance, Penalty Group 1, in an amount of four grams or more but less than 200 grams in a drug free zone, were filed against Sims.

**Suspect Arrested Following Scam Investigation**

Over the weekend, the Sulphur Springs Police Department received a report involving scammers who had targeted an elderly individual while falsely claiming to represent the Federal Trade Commission.

The scammers convinced the victim that her bank account had been used to purchase harmful or illegal material. She was then instructed to withdraw a large amount of cash and was told that an agent would come to her residence to collect the money in order to help resolve the alleged issue.

With the assistance of the victim, Sulphur Springs Police Department Criminal Investigators conducted an undercover operation. During the operation, a suspect arrived at the victim’s residence to collect $44,000 in cash. After leaving the residence, the suspect was stopped by Investigators and was taken into custody.

The suspect was identified as Hung-Chi Chen of McKinney, Texas. Chen was booked into the Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office on a charge of Theft from an Elderly Individual in an amount between $30,000 and $150,000, a second-degree felony.

The Sulphur Springs Police Department has received numerous reports of scams in recent years. We encourage residents to speak with elderly family members, friends, and neighbors about these types of scams.

The Sulphur Springs Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating the below runaway juvenile.

Braxton Grady Allen Teague, 15 years of age, approximately 5'9" tall, weighing 160lbs.

Braxton was last seen wearing a black shirt, gray joggers and black slides.

June 27 - Symphony League 4th of July Celebration - Parking Information

Due to the safety zone needed for the fireworks display some parking around the plaza will be closed. Attached is a diagram showing the safety zone shaded in red and arrows indicating roadways that will be closed. Pedestrian traffic will be allowed in the shaded area till around 8:00 p.m. and then closed prior to the fireworks display. Due to the road closures, we ask that you plan accordingly.
