🔥🚒 Attention‼️ As the temperatures drop, we want to remind everyone to stay safe when using space heaters. Keep heaters at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn! Always turn them off when leaving the room or going to bed. Check for frayed wires and never use extension cords. Test your smoke alarms regularly to ensure they’re working. Let’s keep our homes and families safe this winter! 🚨

Tips from a Fire Fighter-
Even everyday electrical equipment like power strips can be a safety risk when not maintained or used properly. Follow these best practices to stay safe when using power strips, surge protectors and extension cords, not just during the Holiday’s, but throughout the year.

• Power strips, surge protectors and extension cords are NOT a substitute for permanent wiring.

• Power strips are meant for INDOOR use only (unless specially designed for outdoor use).

• Keep children and pets AWAY from all electrical cords and power strips.

• At no time should a power strip or surge protector in your home be exposed to MOISTURE.

• Power strips should be plugged into a GROUNDED wall outlet. Do not plug a power strip into an existing surge protector, power strip or extension cord.

• Never plug a SPACE HEATER into an extension cord or power strip. Space heaters should be plugged directly into a wall socket.

• There should only be ONE power strip or surge protector plugged into a double wall outlet.

• Only use power strips for LOW – VOLTAGE electronics. Overloading a power strip can create a fire hazard.

• Keep all power strips and surge protectors UNCOVERED so that air around it may circulate freely.

• If a power strip is HOT to the touch, unplug and remove it immediately.

• Power strips and surge protectors do not have expiration dates, though over time, they may STOP WORKING as designed. Once a strip hits the four or five-year mark, it’s time to start considering replacing them.

• Check power strips and surge protectors REGULARLY to ensure they are not damaged.

If you feel unsafe or unsure about your electrical system, we would be happy to come out and do an inspection. We’ll let you know of any concerns to watch for and where your home is at compared to the safety standards of a new home.

Just saying “freeze” can make a Texan flinch. We remember last winter. But you can take steps to protect your home before temperatures drop. For starters, wrap indoor pipes with insulation. Wrap your attic pipes first. And when a freeze happens, you can run water through your indoor faucets – ...

A homeowner had a close call this morning here in Kaukauna. Overloaded outlets and misuse of extension cords and adapters are common causes of residential and commercial fires.

Help reduce your risk by:

*Avoid using extension cords when possible. If you must, remember they are for temporary use only and always ensure they are rated for the application in which you are using it. Never tack to a wall or run under rugs.

*Never use extension cords with appliances or space heaters. Plug them directly into wall outlets.

*There should only be one surge protector or power strip plugged into a single duplex electrical outlet.

*Do not connect one extension cord or power strip to another.

This is what happens when you try to burn a Christmas tree in a home fireplace. This is from a fire we responded to this morning. Please dispose of trees properly!
