Last Tuesday evening Houston River Fd held a medical refresher training.
Walter Siefford, an EMS Instructor with Acaian Ambulance Service, covered topics on heat related injuries, traumas, and the use of some medications like Narcan, and Nitro.

This morning the HOUSTON RIVER FIRE DEPARTMENT had the honor of participating in the Community Hands on CPR Event in Sulphur.
The Houston River Fd worked along side of SPD, Ward 4 Marshal's Office, CPSO, Sulphur Fire Dept., Carlyss Fire Department, and Westlake Fire Department to train citizens to perform durning a medical emergency. CPR plays a very important role in the chain of survival.

Today at the Calcasieu Emergency Response Training Center teams from Hackberry FD, Jeff Davis Fire District 3, HOUSTON RIVER FIRE DEPARTMENT, Ward Six Fire Protection District No. One, Vinton FD, and Ward 1 Fire Department, participated in the practice pratical exams for the Firefighter II certification though the Southwest Louisiana Volunteer Firefighter Academy.
Firefighters made real world interior attacks on the burn building, Calcasieu Parish E911, Dixie Dawn assisted with real time dispatch.
Firefighters then trained on residential propane emergencies. And the application of firefighting foam.
Houston River Chief Dean Lappe was lead instructor, with assistance from Assistant Chief Justin Chandler, Captian Mike Brinson, Captian Loy Bader of Ward 6 FD, and Chief Clint Welch of Hackberry FD.
These volunteers have spent many hours of their time training and perfecting their Skills in the firefighting trade.
Two more tests Cadets and you have met the achievement of certified Firefighters.

Today was a fun day!! The Houston River Fire Department was invited to Houston River Baptist Church to have a water fight with the kids from Vacation Bible School!! there was not a dry kiddo or teacher in the bunch!!
Thank you Houston River Baptist Church for inviting us to be a part in introducing these young minds to the Gospels, and Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior! We cant wait to do it again!

Saturday was a busy day for your HOUSTON RIVER FIRE DEPARTMENT, it started at 730am as we hosted the hands on Advanced Auto Extraction for the Southwest Louisiana Volunteer Firefighter Academy Firefighter 2 class.
Firefighters learned the advanced techniques for dash displacements, roof removals, door removals, vehicle stabilization with rescue jacks and struts, and victim removal from a large vehicle on its side.
Firefighters from Hackberry, Jeff Davis Dist 3, Ward Six Fire Protection District No. One, and Houston River Fd participated in the training.
Chief Dean Lappe was the lead instructor, along with Assistant Chief Justin Chandler, and Assistant Chief Gary Underwood from Wd6fd.
