Snohomish County Fire District 5 Snohomish County Fire District 5 - www.snofire5.org We protect 72 square miles in the Skykomish Valley, including the town of Sultan. Sultan, WA 98294.

We are a combination department consisting of about 30 volunteer/part-time members, 5 career members, 2 administrative personnel, a part-time Deputy Chief and full-time Chief. The district is overseen by 3 publicly elected commissioners. Commissioner meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Mondays of each month at 7pm at 304 Alder St. The public is encouraged to attend.

Another great weekend of Rope Rescue Operations training!

This weekend, Rope Rescue Technician Swain taught another operations certification course! Your SCFD5 firefighters are now certified to perform these skills on emergency calls. While these calls may be lower frequency, they are high acuity calls that need rapid responses. The next step to completing SCFD5's rescue team is to get members certified at the technician level as well as adding specialized certifications such as confined space!

For immediate release:

This morning, SCSO responded to a residence for a prolonged law enforcement situation. During this incident, a fire broke out within the home. A full fire residential response was dispatched. The subject was believed to be the sole occupant of the home. The subject eventually came to the window and was pulled from the structure by law enforcement and immediately handed to SCFD5 M51. The subject was transported to the hospital. The structure had significant ammunition and devices that did not allow fire crews to safely enter the structure. During fire control, live ammunition continued to detonate as fire crews made a concerted defensive attack. No firefighters or law enforcement officers were injured. Thank you SCSO for your quick response and actions to keep fire crews safe. Thank you Snohomish Regional Fire & Rescue and Sky Valley Fire for your assistance on this significant incident.

Rope Rescue Operations 🪢

This weekend, Rope Rescue Technician Swain certified crews in Rope Rescue Operations! This certification is another step to our members being certified for SCFD5's new Rope Rescue Team! First, crews must complete the Awareness certification, followed by Operations. Once members are certified in Operations they can complete the Technician level training! Happy Birthday Smokey!! 🐻🎉

Today, August 9th, Smokey Bear turns 82! In 1944, Smokey appeared on his first poster and became a national icon, helping the public to understand the importance of preventing wildfires! In 1950, the U.S. Forest Service adopted an orphaned black bear cub that was rescued from a wildfire in New Mexico! The Forest Service dedicated that there was no better name than Smokey! Only You Can Prevent Wildfires!

We cannot overestimate how dry it is in our area and how everyone must consider their outdoor activities wisely.

Crews just returned from Sultan Basin Rd near Olney Creek, where target shooting activities resulted in a stump fire.

Luckily an attentive hiker happened upon it, used their water and called 911 immediately. Their quick actions limited the likely fire spread.

When outdoors:
🚫 No activities that create heat or sparks
🚫 No parking or driving vehicles off roadway in dry vegetation. This includes ORVs!
🚫 No outdoor burning, including campfires
✅ Carry extra water and/or tool in vehicle
✅ Always know where you are and check for fire activity in the area
✅ Call 911 to report any outdoor fire

It's a fun coincidence that both BR51 and Smokey Bear have returned home on the same day! BR51 has safely returned and demobilized! Thank you Lt Gwilt, FF Davis, and FF Gage for your incredibly hard work, dedication, and service to countless communities over the last two weeks! What a great evening at Sultan National Night Out! ☀️

Even with smoky skies from the wildfires, our community came together to celebrate summer, connect with neighbors, and spend time with the incredible agencies that help keep Sultan safe every day.

A huge thank you to our partners including City of Sultan, Sultan Coalition, Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, Sultan Police Department, and Snohomish County Search & Rescue for making the evening such a success. We loved seeing so many familiar faces and meeting new ones!
