Meet Kathy, also known as “Corky” 💙
Thanks to her long, curly hair, Kathy grew up with the nickname “Corky Moore.” It started when a childhood friend’s dad called her “Corkilini,” and the name stuck throughout her school years. It became so well known that even her principal called her Corky.
Kathy’s family moved from Seattle to Gold Bar in 1962. As the second of five siblings, she grew up enjoying the outdoors with her dad and their black Labs, hunting birds, fishing, and exploring the area around them.
At Sultan High School, Kathy was a cheerleader, track athlete, and tournament trap shooter. After graduating in 1971, she continued playing sports, especially softball. Her team, Index Air, competed in tournaments in Hawaii each year against teams sponsored by airlines. “We were a really good team and had a lot of fun!”
Her love for softball continued for years. Kathy played competitive softball for 18 consecutive years while working two, and sometimes three, jobs.
Another important part of Kathy’s life has been the restaurant industry. She started working at the Dutch Cup Restaurant in Sultan in 1967 and cooked there on and off for 15 years. She later owned three restaurants that many local residents still remember fondly.
This year, Kathy was honored as the Citizen of the Year for her dedication to the people of Sky Valley and the many years she has spent caring for those around her.
Today, when she isn’t traveling with her significant other, Terry, or visiting her daughter Nicki, son-in-law, and three grandchildren in Montana, you can often find Kathy at the Sky Valley Center preparing homemade lunches for the community or taking care of her Airbnb in Index.
For Kathy, the Sky Valley Center is about more than a place to gather.
“The Center brings people together for friendship, food and functions. It is an important part of people's life.”
Whether she’s preparing a meal, welcoming someone through the doors, or lending a hand, Kathy continues to be an important part of the Sky Valley community. 💙
