🚒 Happy Volunteer Firefighter Appreciation Day! 🚒

Today, we celebrate the brave men and women who answer the call—not because they have to, but because they choose to serve their community. ❤️

Our volunteer firefighters give their time, energy, and put their own lives on the line to protect their neighbors. They leave family dinners, get out of bed in the middle of the night, and respond when others are running the other way. They do it without expecting anything in return.

To every volunteer firefighter: Thank you for your courage, your sacrifice, your dedication, and your service. Your community is better and safer because of you. 🧑‍🚒🔥

And if you’ve ever thought about becoming a volunteer firefighter, this could be your sign. You don’t have to be a superhero—you just have to be willing to learn, serve, and be there when your community needs you. There’s a place for you in OUR family!

Have you ever thought about joining your local volunteer fire department?

We often get asked, “What do I need to do to join Summer Shade VFD?” The answer is simple!

To become a member, all you need to do is:
• Attend two consecutive monthly meetings.
• After your second meeting, our current members will vote to accept you into the department.

It’s really that easy!

If you’ve been thinking about getting involved and serving your community, we’d love to have you join us. Our monthly meeting is tonight (July 28th) at 6:00 PM. Come meet the members, ask questions, and see what we’re all about. We hope to see you there!

With the severe storms moving in, we just wanted to let everyone know the storm shelters are open at both Branstetter Park and the firehouse at Summer Shade. Everyone be safe!

Just wanted to take time to thank you all for showing up and supporting our department tonight. We have the best community and we appreciate you all!

Today, we lay to rest our brother, Jason Hugh McMurtrey (936).

Jason was more than a firefighter—he was a friend, a teammate, and family to each of us. His dedication, strength, and heart for serving others will never be forgotten.

Rest easy, 936. We’ll take it from here.

You will always be missed.
