NPPD just notified the city management, That Summerfield and Burchard will be without power Tuesday (4/14/26) morning, for approximately 2 to 3 hours, for Transformer replacement.

Neil & Deb are moving this summer. We have a few things left of Summerfield memorabilia. We also have two 9 paine windows that have old postcards that are over hundred years old. We also have some school pictures and annuals if anyone is interested, please contact me at 402-230-0234.

MARCH COUNCIL NOTES

The Summerfield City Council met on Monday March 9, 2026. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Bruce Mitchell at 7:00p.m. Council members present were Craig Wiebe, Butch Renz, Jamie Smith, Pete Cloyed and Jared Scheibe. Also present were Jennifer Jones, Sherryl Burger and visitors Ryan and Chrystal Woodyard.
Minutes from the previous meeting were approved.
Ryan and Chrystal talked to the council about enforcement of ordinances and the different ways to get them done. They also allowed the council to look at the code book for the city of Blue Rapids.
The city received three bids to clean up the trees and brush at 603 4th Street. Craig moved to have Ryan Woodyard do it at a cost of $5,000 that will be billed to the property owner. Pete seconded. All in favor.
Craig told the council he thought it would be best for the city to purchase a front blade for the tractor rather than a rear blade.
Bruce said he was going to contact Steve Menninga about replacing a light at the Presbyterian Church.
Craig said himself and Bruce went around town and looked at the ditches seeing which ones needed to be cleaned first.
Craig told the council the grant for water and sewer was completed and sent each council member the email. Bruce was going to contact NCRPC about the figures that were given.
Craig told the council Denise Ludwig may want an electric meter put in on the property she owns across from her house. Bruce said the city could put a meter in, but she would have to pay a $50.00 connection fee and all other costs for the meter to be put in.
Bruce told the council Donald Stueve has pole that needs to be replaced. Blake Ronnebaum was going to be contacted to do it.
Jamie moved to pay the bills. Pete seconded. All in favor
Pete moved to adjourn the meeting. Butch seconded. All in favor.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:45 p.m.
Next meeting will be April 13, 2026, at 7 p.m. at City Hall.

First Lutheran Church services for Holy Week are Thursday and Friday evening at 7:00 pm. Easter Sunday services are at 9:00 am in Summerfield Kansas. Communion during Thursday and Easter services. Everyone welcome.

January 2026 Council Meeting Minutes
COUNCIL NOTES

The Summerfield City Council met on Monday January 12, 2026. The meeting was called to order by Mayor Bruce Mitchell at 7:00p.m. Council members present were Jared Scheibe, Craig Wiebe and Butch Renz and Jamie Smith and Pete Cloyed. Also present were Jennifer Jones and Sherryl Burger and visitors Karstyn and Rachel from NPPD.
Minutes from the previous meeting were approved.
Karstyn and Rachel presented the council with an Operations and Maintenance Agreement NPPD would like the city to consider.
Craig nominated Jamie as the President of the council. Pete seconded. All in favor.
Pete told the council he was looking into pop up grants for the city.
Jamie told the council Chris Haug was planning to take the concrete plant down mid February. Jamie also said Chris was interested in taking down the trailer located at 707 Front St and was willing to do it for free.
Blake Gurtler said he will be removing the trees at the City Park and 1 on Highway 99 by the end of January.
Blake Ronnebaum will begin cleaning the ditches in the spring.
Jamie moved to transfer $10,000 from the Electric Fund to Capital Improvement. Pete seconded. All In favor.
The council discussed a water leak that is behind the building Russ & Son’s recently purchased. There was discussion on who to hire to fix it. No decision was made and it is considered unfinished business.
Craig moved to pay the bills. Jamie seconded. All in favor.
Craig moved to adjourn the meeting. Jamie seconded. All in favor.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:56 p.m.
Next meeting will be February 9, 2026, at 7 p.m. at City Hall.
