Summerset Police Department Announces Indictment in Trespassing and Vandalism Case

In the early morning hours of March 18, 2026, a male attempted to cut padlocks off storage units at Rice’s Polaris in Summerset. The male also attempted to pry open coin boxes at car wash bays and vacuums, causing thousands of dollars in damage.

The Summerset Police Department quickly identified the suspect as Reed Hess, 29, of Black Hawk.

On May 4, 2026, a Meade County Grand Jury indicted Hess on one count of Intentional Damage to Property (Class 6 Felony) and one count of Entering or Refusing to Leave Property (Class 1 Misdemeanor).

This case was investigated by the Summerset Police Department.

As with all criminal proceedings, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Summerset Police Department Announces Indictment in Burglary & Theft Investigation

On November 5, 2025, two individuals forcibly entered KC Trailers in Summerset. During the burglary, keys were taken for multiple vehicles and trailers on the property. Three vehicles were stolen from the lot, along with several thousand dollars in tools and a firearm.

All three vehicles were later recovered by law enforcement, along with the majority of the stolen tools and the firearm.

On November 8, Summerset officers executed a search warrant at a residence and recovered additional items connected to the burglary.

On April 27, 2026, Alexander Montileaux, 31, of Rapid City, was indicted by a Meade County Grand Jury in connection with this case. Charges include:

- Third Degree Burglary
- Five Counts of Grand Theft

A warrant has been issued for Montileaux’s arrest. Bond has been set at $5,000 cash or surety.

This case was investigated by the Summerset Police Department.

As with all criminal proceedings, the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Summerset Police Department Announces Indictment in Drug & Firearm Investigation

SUMMERSET, S.D. – The Summerset Police Department announces that Shannon Butler, 51, has been indicted by a Meade County Grand Jury in connection with drug and firearm charges in Summerset. Butler was indicted on Dec. 22, 2025, on the following charges:

Possession of Firearm By One With Prior Drug Conviction, Unauthorized Possession of a Controlled Substance, Possession of Ma*****na & Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

A warrant has been issued for Butler’s arrest. Bond has been set at $2,500 cash or surety. Anyone with information regarding Butler’s whereabouts is encouraged to contact the Summerset Police Department at 605-721-6806.

The case was investigated by the Summerset Police Department.

As with all criminal proceedings, the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
