A friendly reminder regarding 4-H camps-

As an event hosted under WVU Extension, 4-H camps are considered CLOSED CAMPS. This means that unless you are a camp volunteer with assigned roles or visiting on business, you are restricted from entering 4-H camp. For the safety of the youth campers, the general public is asked to refrain from visiting 4-H camp while camp is in session.

We ask that if you are a 4-H camp visitor to the Nicholas 4-H County Camp being held at the Nicholas County Veterans Memorial Park from June 14 to 19, for the purpose of teaching a class, presenting during an assembly, or any other purpose previously approved, you sign in at the Dining Hall immediately upon arriving at camp.

We appreciate your understanding and adherence to our rules.

And here is a little poem about the Livestock Show and Sale to get you excited!!!

On July twenty-fifth, in summer’s bright glow,
The Nicholas County Fair comes alive with a show—
Boots in the dust and the warm country air,
Pride in each step, each hand in the care.

Cattle stand steady, sleek under the sun,
Lambs soft and curious, calves barely begun,
Hogs in their pens with a confident eye,
Each one a story of hard work nearby.

In coops and in cages, small champions appear,
With feathers and fur that draw smiles and cheer—
Chickens cluck softly, bright combs held with pride,
Turkeys fan feathers out, strutting wide.
Rabbits sit gentle with twitching pink nose,
Goats leap and nudge in their playful shows,
Each one a reminder of patience and care,
From the smallest of hands at the county fair.

Ribbons will flutter in red, white, and blue,
Earned by the patience in all that they do,
Early dawn feedings and long evening chores,
Lead to the cheers when the auctioneer roars.

Numbers ring out in a rhythmic refrain,
Gavels will fall like a soft summer rain,
Buyers and bidders all gathered as one,
Honoring labor from season to sun.

And when the day’s bidding and judging are through,
Memories linger like fresh morning dew—
For more than the sales or the prizes we share,
It’s heart that defines Nicholas County Fair.
