The Summersville Police Department was proud to be at Nicholas County Veteran’s Memorial Park this weekend in support of AWAY’s Denim Day Fun Walk/Run.

Our officers were on site with the “Drunk Busters” impairment simulation, giving participants a hands-on look at how impaired driving affects coordination and reaction time. It’s always a great opportunity to educate and engage with the community in a meaningful way.

We’re grateful to organizations like AWAY for the important work they do supporting survivors of sexual assault and raising awareness in our community.

🚨 SCAM ALERT 🚨

The Summersville Police Department is warning residents about a scam notice currently circulating that claims to be a “Final Notice — Court Enforcement Action” from the State of West Virginia regarding unpaid tolls or traffic violations.

This notice is NOT legitimate.

These scams are designed to create urgency and pressure you into making a payment—often through a QR code or unofficial link. Do not scan the QR code, click any links, or send payment.

⚠️ Red flags to watch for:
• Unexpected “final notice” letters or messages
• Demands for immediate payment
• QR codes or suspicious links for payment
• Threats involving license suspension or legal action without prior notice

If you receive something like this:
• Do not respond or provide any personal information
• Do not make any payments

Stay alert and help spread the word to protect others in our community.

The Summersville Police Department will be hosting two law enforcement training opportunities in the coming months here in Summersville.

On May 18, officers will have the opportunity to attend Social Media & Open-Source Investigations training at the Summersville Arena and Conference Center. This course focuses on how investigators can responsibly use social media and open-source intelligence tools to gather information and strengthen investigations in today’s digital world.

Later in the month, May 26–29, Summersville will also host an Active Threat Interdiction Instructor Course, which focuses on rapid response tactics, scene management, and preparing instructors to train other officers in effective responses to active-threat situations.

Providing access to high-quality training like this helps ensure officers are equipped with the knowledge and skills needed to protect and serve our community.
