Today we celebrate the birth of our great state and the people who make it such a special place to call home. On June 20, 1863, West Virginia became the 35th state admitted to the Union, and for 163 years we have proudly embraced the values of hard work, resilience, faith, and community.

From our beautiful mountains and winding rivers to our small towns and friendly faces, there is no place quite like the Mountain State. We are proud of our history, grateful for our heritage, and excited for the future of our communities.

As we celebrate today, let us remember the generations who came before us and continue working together to make West Virginia an even better place to live, work, and raise a family.

Nicholas County’s own Autumn and Miley have worked incredibly hard, and now they’ve earned the opportunity to compete at the National High School Rodeo! This incredible opportunity allows them to represent our community and the State of West Virginia on a national stage.
