The community is invited to gather at Veterans Park in Mountain View this Saturday, August 29, for a special evening of remembrance honoring the 13 U.S. service members who lost their lives in the attack at Abbey Gate in Kabul, Afghanistan.

Hosted by Honor and Remember, the evening will include a special Gold Star Flag presentation to the mother of Staff Sgt. Taylor Hoover, one of the 13 service members killed in the August 26, 2021 attack.

The ceremony will begin at 7:30 p.m.

At 8:00 p.m., Honor and Remember will formally present the Gold Star Flag to Staff Sgt. Hoover’s mother in recognition of his service, sacrifice and enduring legacy.

At 8:30 p.m., those in attendance will join together for a candlelight vigil honoring all 13 service members lost at Abbey Gate:

The Mountain View community and surrounding area are encouraged to attend and help provide a strong show of support for this Gold Star family while remembering the lives and sacrifices of all 13 service members.

We are having a couple work days over Labor Day Weekend to get the Lodge basement floor cleaned so we can proceed with painting & sealing. If you would like to help, John will be there about 10:00 AM on September 4th with a large buffer to strip the floor. If it isn't done by Friday, we'll be back on Saturday to finish. Thank you! Post 60 Officer Elections were held at tonight's meeting & new term officers were sworn in. Starting July 2026, Post Offiers will be Commander: John B. Fleming III, First Vice: Jay Forkum, Second Vice & Chaplain: Herb Robbins, Financial Manager/Treasurer: Laurie McLain Fleming, Interim Judge Advocate: John B. Fleming III & Adjutant/Secretary: Sharlene Greear. Congratulations Officers!! Guests were Doug Johnson & Diana Jeffries-Johnson who presented New membership awards to Jay Forkum former AmVets Post 60 Commander & swore in new term Officers!! The Post also voted to be a Sponsor for the Hartshorn Fireworks Display on July 11th. Thanks members & guests, for your time & attention!
