Just FYI - the maintenance & rehab of our smaller (and oldest) water tank on Hwy 20 has been completed and the tank is back in service.

A leak was repaired in the Freedom Road/Old Military Rd area earlier today, As the result, some customers in that area may experience dirty or cloudy water.

Leave the water on for a few minutes to Flush the lines in your home to clear up the issue.

You may recall several months ago we took the smaller of our 2 Hwy 20 water tanks offline to have it re-lined and painted as a part of our ongoing tank maintenance program.

Now it is time to do the same process on the larger Hwy 20 tank.

Thru the use of booster pumps we should be able to minimize any impact on customers water service.

However, peak usage times (like early morning shower times) may see some temporary drops in water pressure.

The project should be completed in 7-10 days.

This is the final refurbishment of our 3 tanks. Once this tank is completed, all 3 of our tanks will be ready to serve another 10-12 years before another round of refurbishment.

Most customers have or are receiving their August water bills now.

Due to the mail delays this month - the deadline to pay your bill without a late fee is extended from the 10th to the 14th of August (1 week from today).

Payment must be made by 4:30 pm on Friday, August 14, 2026.

Several customers have inquired about not receiving their water bill for August.

We have learned the local US Post Office has not received shipments of mail for the past 2 days - causing the delay

Hopefully they will be back to normal operations soon.

Thought we woujd just share some gee-whiz information about your water system. These statistics are shared at our monthly meetings, but most customers are likely unaware.

When SUD was established in the early 1960s, it had less than 300 customers (meters). As of May 2026, we now have 2,046 meters. 1,924 of those meters were active in May 2026 - 122 had no usage

May 2026 statistics -

Total meters - 2,046

Total gallons of water produced for month - 8,041,000
Average gallons produced per day - 268,033
Average gallons per meter for month - 4,179
Average gallons per meter per day - 139
473 customers used 1,500 gallons or less

Total water bills for May - $95,565.85

Caldwell Road Well update

GREAT NEWS to share !

After about 2 years of working thru the process, this week SUD was approved for USDA funding for the much needed upgrade to our water system.

This will include development of the well on Caldwell Road, piping of the raw water to our water plant, construction of a filtration plant and replacement of some older water mains in areas that have been troublesome for the past several years.

The total cost of the project is estimated at $5.5 million.

The project is now in the design phase, which should be completed by December - bids for the work will be solicited in January/February 2027 and construction beginning in the Spring

Bringing this new strong well online will provide sustainable water for the community well into the future !!

This has to be the best looking drought map for our area in mid-July in many years !

The July meeting of the SUD Board of Commissioners is being rescheduled from July 20th to July 27th at 6 pm at the SUD Office - 104 Shady Street, Summertown. All Board meetings are open to the public
