FYI to the voters -

The Lawrence County Election Commission office has recently completed its move to a new office.

The new office is located at 702 Mahr Avenue in Lawrenceburg. This is the former location of the Career Center and next to the Budget office.

This provides the election office with much more room and much easier accessibility for handicapped citizens

This move was accomplished now so the new space can be utilized for early voting and other activities for the Elections occurring in 2026.

You can also visit the office to register to vote or update your residence address to insure you vote in the proper precinct.

You may have noticed the “Road Construction” signs being erected along Hwy 20 - over the past few days

I was concerned that TDOT may be planning to pave during Octoberfest (they have tried that in the past).

I spoke to TDOT today - they advised that only the signs are being erected this week - but paving will not be done for another week or two.

The plan is to repave Hwy 20 in Lawrence County - thru Summertown - from the Lewis Co line to the Maury Co line.

At tonight’s County Commission meeting, we honored SHS student/2025 graduate Cavan Love with a Proclamation.

Cavan is pictured with the County Commissioners and County Executive David Morgan. Cavan in in the middle of the front row holding the Proclamation.

Cavan competed in the SkillsUSA welding competition in the Spring of 2025 where he captured the Tennessee State Championship for Welding. Cavan then advanced to the National competition level where he placed 6th out of 53 competitors !!

We regularly recognize the accomplishments of our local student-athletes for their on-field/court accomplishments - so it was great to be able to recognize Cavan for his individual accomplishments in a vocational trade !

Cavan is the son of Eric & Elysia Love.

Congratulations on a great job and a great future Cavan !

Tonight, the Lawrence County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a request from the Lawrence County Board of Education to erect gates on West College Street and allow SHS to close a portion of West College Street DURING SCHOOL HOURS.

As depicted on the map - a gate will be erected at the intersection with Corbin Street (Corbin will not be affected) and another gate will be erected near the brick SHS sign on the East side of the SHS Gym steps.

This will allow SHS to control traffic on their campus and near the school buildings - for student safety purposes - as on other campuses across the County.

Commission approval was required as West College is a County Road - so approval was needed to restrict access to the road.

Condolences to the family & friends of Lawrence County Commissioner Roy Dale Hagan.

I did not know Roy until he was elected to the Commission in 2022 - but we soon became friends. We sat next to one another at most of the Commission meetings and I enjoyed our conversations.

He was dedicated to his family and dedicated to serving his community as Commissioner, his many years in the Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department and any other way he could serve.

Gone way too soon my friend - your family, friends, Community and I are definitely going to miss you -

Lawrence County Government extends its sympathy to the family of 4th District Commissioner Roy Dale Hagan, who passed away yesterday from complications related to cancer treatment.

Commissioner Hagan was a lifelong resident of the Fall River Community, a founding member of the Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department, a cattle farmer, and retired from Murray Manufacturing Company and Delta Steel & Tube in Florence, AL.

“Roy was passionate about helping his community and Lawrence County,” said County Executive David Morgan. “He was a valued member of the Commission.”

“He will also be missed for his happy personality. We could always count on Roy to bring a little humor and sunshine into any room.”

This afternoon, I attended the official groundbreaking for the new Maury Regional Health facility to serve Lawrence Couny.

The 3-story, 60,000 square foot building is located on Hwy 43 - across from the FedEx complex. It will house primary care and specialist for a variety of health care needs.

It will be much more convenient for all residents and especially for those of us who have used Maury Regional physicians and health services for many years. It will also be much more conveniently located for residents in Wayne and Giles Counties.

Attached are photos of the planned building and footprint. Construction is expected to take about 1 year.

It’s a great day for Lawrence County !

Citizens -

As you may be aware, Lawrence County is in the process of establishing solid waste convenience centers in various parts of the County.

These centers will allow citizens to drop off their solid waste and recyclables without driving to the transfer facility in Lawrenceburg.

We are in the process of identifying possible locations for such a facility in the North end of the County. A few potential parcels have been identified and are being considered - but I am reaching out to see if there may be other parcels available.

The centers require 1.5-2.0 acres of property and need to be somewhat conveniently located.

These convenience centers will have the garbage hauled away daily and will be kept very sanitary - so it is not like a landfill/dump. I have attached a photo of a similar center in a neighboring County as a visual reference.

If you have any such property, or know of a potential parcel, please contact me at (931) 629-2491 so we may discuss it further.

Looking forward to gathering some information.

Early voting ended in Tennessee on Oct 31st -

11,700 citizens early voted in Lawrence County. When Absentee votes are added, it will be over 12,000.

That’s more voting early than the total that voted in the 2020 General Election.

A reminder that Early voting for the Presidential Election ends on this Thursday - October 31, 2024 at 4 pm.

Summertown area residents - I have been contacted by several constituents regarding a petition being pushed around to have LUS take over Summertown Utility District - and asking my opinion on it. So here it is. (Note - I have not seen the petition)

As I understand it, it is being pushed by certain individuals with a personal financial interest. These individuals do not want to follow the established rules for their subdivision development(s) that others have followed. So, they want to get LUS involved - thinking that they can then get water for their development(s) for a reduced amount - or free.

What they are not telling you is that if LUS takes over SUD, you will see less attention to our local needs while LUS (owned by the City of Lawrenceburg) sets your rates - and reaps the profits.

LUS would be looking to profit from the fastest growing area in the County - us !

Also - all of the LUS board is entirely appointed by the City of Lawrenceburg, so you will have no one speaking for the citizens of our community.

SUD is one of the most financially sound utilities in the County - and we need to keep control of it in our community - not in Lawrenceburg.

I urge you to NOT sign the petition - you are being completely misled.
