On this day one year ago...
We released the first draft of a community vision plan built in partnership with the Town of Summerville and Dorchester County and, most importantly, shaped by THOUSANDS of people who live, work and do business here.
You completed surveys. You joined listening sessions. You told us what you value today and what you want this community to become.
The result is ENVISION 2047: a plan of the people and a roadmap for the future of Summerville and Dorchester County.
It challenges us to think bigger about the next two decades:
How do we create distinctive places that strengthen the character of our communities?
How do we invest in top-tier education that prepares the next generation?
How do we build an entrepreneurial culture that helps the next generation of businesses start, grow and thrive here?
How do we encourage quality economic growth while protecting what makes this community special?
And the work is already moving forward.
Since that first draft was released in August of 2025, we've seen meaningful investment in housing and new plans taking shape to create vibrant gateways into our communities. Even more partners have stepped forward to help turn the vision into action.
ENVISION 2047 isn't a plan designed to sit on a shelf. It's a shared direction for where we want to go and a framework for the decisions we make along the way.
One year later, we're proud of the vision. We're grateful for the people who created it. And we're even more excited about the growing number of partners helping bring it to life.
Certainly, 2047 may sound far away, BUT the work to get there is happening now.
