This week Dorchester County EMS had the opportunity to spend time with the North Charleston Fire Department Teen Camp, giving them a hands-on look at the world of Emergency Medical Services.

From learning about the role of EMTs and paramedics to exploring our equipment and seeing how we respond to medical emergencies, these young men and women got a glimpse into what makes EMS such a rewarding profession.

Our Community Paramedic, Angie Johnson, recently had the opportunity to speak with the Men’s Group at St. Luke’s Lutheran Church about Dorchester County EMS, the Community Paramedic Program, and the impact of community partnerships.

The discussion focused on how working together can help identify and support those in need while strengthening the resources available throughout our community. We’re excited that St. Luke’s is exploring ways to partner with us and make an even greater difference for the citizens we serve.

In the month of May, we ran 2,017 calls!

🚑We transported 1,218 patients

🏠Community Paramedic Angie and our crews gave out 28 Naloxone kits

2️⃣Medic 2 was the busiest, with 298 calls

🔴⚪️ 14.30 of all transports were emergent (lights and sirens)

❌ 436 AMA refusals were signed

In the year to date as of 5/31, we have ran 9,723 calls!

🚑We have transported 5,951 patients

🏠Community Paramedic Angie has had 510 visits

🥇Medic 2 has been the busiest, with 1,440 calls

🥈Medic 7, in second place, has had 1,372 calls

🥉Medic 1, back in third place, has had 1,234 calls
6️⃣ Medic 6, falling to fourth place, had 1,221 call!

❌ 2,066 AMA refusals were signed

We look forward to continuing to serve the residents and visitors of Dorchester County!

🌀 Hurricane season starts with preparation, and preparation starts with community. 🌀

Today, Dorchester County EMS was proud to join our public safety partners at the Hurricane Expo, providing residents with information, resources, and tips to help them stay safe before, during, and after a storm.

From emergency planning and evacuation information to disaster preparedness and family safety, this event was a great reminder that no single agency stands alone. By working together with our neighboring agencies and community partners, we’re building a stronger, more resilient Dorchester County.

Thank you to everyone who stopped by, asked questions, and took the time to prepare. The best time to get ready for a hurricane is before one is on the way.
