Remembering our past…

Today we pause to remember past Pine Ridge Deputy Chief Jeffery Thompson. Chief Thompson was a dedicated life long volunteer with our department. He unexpectedly passed on this day 16 years ago. RIP Chief Thompson.

Teamwork makes the dream work! 🚒

Last Wednesday, the crew of Engine 201 A-Shift and City of Goose Creek Fire Department Engine 2804 got together for a pump operator training evolution!

Partnerships like these are imperative for providing quality emergency services to our respective communities. Joint trainings provide each organizations firefighters with a different perspective, and a new set of experiences.

We are thankful for the opportunity to train, and look forward to future events!

Are you a local firefighter and want to grow your experience level and make new connections? Look no further! We recently reopened our applications for part-time employees.

We require a minimum of 60 hours a month, and have openings for 48/96 rotation slots, or as-needed availability. Applications can be found below.

Explorer Competition

On Saturday, June 13th, our South Berkeley Junior Firefighters traveled to Myrtle Beach to compete in the South Carolina State Explorer Competition. Our Junior Firefighters have been hard at work preparing for this for the past couple of months. Their hard work paid off, as our team took home awards for 2nd place in team dress-out drills, and 3rd place in team hydrant connections. Great job team!

We started our junior program in the beginning of 2024 as an Explorer Post. Since then, we've made some changes to optimize and improve their experience, and transitioned into a Junior Firefighter Program. This means that when they're not preparing for competitions, they're riding the apparatus and gaining valuable experience, while also assisting the community and helping their neighbors in a limited capacity.

We are always accepting applications for new Junior Firefighters. Our Junior Firefighters are between the ages of 14 and 18 and must maintain a GPA of higher than 2.0. More information can be found here: https://sbfd.hireclick.com/jb/junior-firefighter/view/155755

Fire Safe South Berkeley

Fire Chief Matt Myers is proud to announce the designation of the South Berkeley Fire District as a Fire Safe SC Community! Each year, South Carolina State Fire designates certain communities as Fire Safe communities based on goals and objectives that are set by the State Fire Marshal's Division. These goals surround fire prevention initiatives, the improvement of data reporting, and a reduction in the annual number of house fires.

Both of our legacy departments (Goose Creek Rural and Pine Ridge) received this designation, and Fire Inspectors John Gombar Sr. and Tim Breckenridge were present to accept the awards on our behalf.

This achievement could not be done without the help of our Fire Marshals division, our on duty crews and staff, and our residents. Thank you for allowing us to be a Fire Safe SC Community!
