We are excited to announce that we have begun the process of changing our digital footprint, including this social media page, to reflect the formation of the South Berkeley Fire District!

This transition is a major step forward, combining the strengths of the Pine Ridge Fire Rescue Department and Goose Creek Rural Fire Department.

You will start seeing our new South Berkeley Fire District branding across all our platforms.

The Goose Creek Rural Fire Department page will soon be merging with South Berkeley Fire District to create one unified, official page for the new District. We hope that we are able to automatically able to move our followers over to the new page, but you can like and follow us now at South Berkeley Fire District to be sure.

We appreciate your patience as we make this important shift. We are committed to continuing to serve you with excellence as the South Berkeley Fire District!

πŸŽƒ Happy Halloween from the Goose Creek Rural Fire Department! πŸ‘»

Here are a few quick reminders to help keep our little ghosts and goblins safe while trick-or-treating tonight:

πŸ•―οΈ Be visible: Add reflective tape, glow sticks, or flashlights so drivers can see you in the dark.

🚸 Stay on sidewalks when possible: Cross streets at corners and use crosswalks β€” never dart between parked cars.

🎭 Check costumes: Make sure costumes fit well to avoid trips and falls, and masks don’t block vision.

🍫 Check treats: Wait until you’re home to inspect candy β€” toss anything that looks opened or suspicious.

πŸš— Drive carefully: Slow down in neighborhoods and keep an eye out for excited kids.

πŸ“± Stick together: Kids should trick-or-treat with an adult or in groups; older kids should share their route and check in often.

🐢 Pet parents: Keep pets inside or leashed β€” all the excitement (and costumes!) can be stressful for them.

Wishing everyone a safe, spooky, and sweet Halloween! πŸ•ΈοΈπŸ§‘

Neighbors helping neighbors!

On October 18th, your Goose Creek Rural firefighters were asked to assist with standby coverage in the North Berkeley Fire District while they operated on a structure fire in the Bonneau area.

Engine 302 reported to the Santee Circle fire station with a crew of 3 volunteers. Fortunately, they didn’t have to run any emergency calls while they covered the district. Engine 301 remained staffed with paid and volunteer crews at our station on Red Bank Road!

We are proud to offer this assistance!

Name: Brandon "BJ" Herlong

Position/Rank: Firefighter

Experience with GCRFD: 1 year

Hometown: Magnolia, TX

Favorite firehouse meal: Burgers

Hobby/Interesting Fact: Fishing

Reason for joining the fire service: I joined the fire service because my dad and uncle had been in the fire service and they always told me how much fun they had being firemen and that it was the best job in the world. (They were right!)

Best part about working at GCRFD: You are surrounded by like-minded people that genuinely care about the job and care about making a difference. The people here come from different backgrounds, and most of them work at full-time departments in the area, which makes it a great place to learn and grow as an individual. The people here truly make Goose Creek Rural feel like home.

Today, we take the time to thank Firefighter Herlong for all of his hard work and for exemplifying what it means to be the Goose Creek Difference!

Did you know that we host two training days each week for our volunteers?

These training days usually consist of fundamental training for our newest volunteers. This is training that allows them to learn the basics of firefighting, and is required to learn the skills they need before they are allowed to respond to actual emergencies!
Our training days are on Tuesdays at 7 PM, and on Saturdays at 9 AM.

Our on-duty crews regularly train during the week, too! Company level training is essential for us to achieve our mission. If you see our firefighters throughout the district conducting training, feel free to stop, observe, and say hello!

Over the past few months, your Goose Creek Rural firefighters have been working diligently at furthering their education and advancing their careers. Six of them recently promoted to firefighter!

The rank of Firefighter is achieved when a member has completed a minimum of 6 months of active membership with the department and the completion of Firefighter 2 class. Once these requirements have been fulfilled, their skills and knowledge are put to the test with a written and practical exam, called the badge test.

We'd like to congratulate these members for their hard work and dedication to achieve their newly promoted rank! It is not an easy task, and we thank you all for having what it takes to Be the Goose Creek Difference!
