🤣
Today I traveled to the town of Hanahan…
They have the only Table Tennis facility in the low country open to the public.
Had to try my luck and withering knees.
They rolled out 6 tables, by process of elimination I ended up on table 6.
Proceeded to 3 straight wins of two out of three.
Moved up to table 5 and had my posterior handed to me!
Great time but now I know… I have decent game, but not much more.
Life… it can be humbling, but it’s best to enjoy the plate that has been placed in front of you.
😘

Bad Excuses that don't Work Week. Title: When in Doubt, Blame the Net. Comic # 343.

Stop blaming the paddle, the lighting, or the "abnormally high" net for your losing streak. The uncomfortable truth about table tennis is that your environment is rarely the problem; your footwork is. If you're constantly scanning the room for a physical reason why your loop just went long, you are making a massive, match-losing mistake that keeps you stuck in the amateur leagues. We see it all the time at Tables Sports Bar. Every time Bruce steps up to the table, he brings a fresh arsenal of excuses. Is the table warped? Did someone grease the floor? It's hilarious in a comic strip, but in reality, this defensive mindset stunts your growth as a player faster than a cheap sandpaper paddle. When you focus on external factors, you completely ignore the mechanics you can actually control.

Imagine what would happen if you channeled all that excuse-making energy into reading spin, lowering your stance, or anticipating the return. You wouldn’t just stop losing to players who capitalize on your distractions—you’d start dominating the table with the calm, quiet confidence of a true veteran. Ready to stop pointing fingers at the net and start adding points to the scoreboard? Let’s break down the three most common psychological traps amateur players fall into, and how to fix your focus so you never have to blame the table again.

Celebrating 3 Years of Retirement week. Title: New schedule, same 4:00 AM alarm. Thanks, biology. Comic # 339.

You spent decades telling yourself that the only thing standing between you and total morning peace was your boss. You bought into the ultimate lie: that retirement means waking up to the gentle chirping of birds at 10:00 AM. But tomorrow morning, when your eyes snap open in the pitch black at 4:00 AM for absolutely no reason at all, the uncomfortable truth is going to hit you harder than a Sensei Lee smash. You didn't beat the clock—your biology just took over the management position.

If you’re trying to figure out what comes next after the corporate grind—or just need a laugh at the absurdity of aging—pull up a barstool with us. Read this week’s full comic strip profile on Bruce’s post-corporate survival guide, and leave a comment sharing the wildest thing that keeps you up at 4:00 AM.

Is your serve improving?

Is your serve improving?

Here are 10 bad habits while serving in table tennis:

1. Not hiding the ball properly from distractions
Looking rushed or careless before serving makes the opponent read your serve easily.

2. Illegal toss
Tossing the ball too low, backward, sideways, or from inside the palm can make the serve illegal.

3. Serving too fast without control
Power is useless if the serve becomes predictable or easy to attack.

4. Always using the same serve
Repeating the same spin, placement, and speed allows the opponent to adjust quickly.

5. No spin variation
Serving only backspin or only topspin makes your serve easy to read.

6. Poor ball placement
Serving mostly to the middle or comfortable area gives the receiver an easy return.

7. Standing too upright
A high body position makes it harder to move quickly after serving.

8. Not preparing for the third ball
Some players serve, then just watch the return instead of getting ready for the next attack.

9. Obvious body and racket movement
Telegraphing the serve through exaggerated motion helps the opponent predict the spin.

10. Serving under pressure without a plan
During close scores, many players panic and serve safely without thinking of placement, spin, or follow-up.
