Lyons Township is bringing mobile emissions testing back — no trip to a testing facility required. The Illinois Air Team unit will be in the township parking lot at 6404 Joliet Road in Countryside this Tuesday, June 9, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. At the last event in April, they processed around 60 vehicles a day. Don't miss your chance to see Union Pacific's Big Boy No. 4014, the world's largest operating steam locomotive, as it rolls through Summit. 🚊🚉🚂

It is expected to pass on the tracks between 8:30-10am on Thursday, June 4th. Best viewing location the corner by Archer Rd and 63rd St

Keep Safety Top of Mind
Stay back at least 25 feet from all railroad tracks. This includes drones. Railroad tracks, trestles, yards and right of way are private property - do not trespass.
Never assume tracks are abandoned or inactive - ALWAYS expect a train.

Be a safe and considerate driver - do not pace the train.

Be Aware of the Environment: While we strive to provide access to all guests, Big Boy is positioned in a working rail environment with uneven walking surfaces that may create difficulty for accessibility.

A Summit 7th-grader just made her mark — literally. Sugey Cepeda's design beat out nearly 70 entries to win the Summit Chamber of Commerce's vehicle sticker contest, and her artwork will appear on the village's 2026-2027 vehicle tags. The self-taught artist kept it simple while others went bold — and it paid off. 🎨
