The Village of Summit is pleased to announce the promotion of Captain Brian Wraalstad to Chief of Police.

Captain Wraalstad succeeds Chief Michael Hartert, who, is retiring after a distinguished career of service to the community. Captain Wraalstad has been a dedicated member of the Summit Police Department since December 1997, serving in roles of increasing responsibility including: Sergeant, Lieutenant and Captain, and demonstrating exceptional leadership, professionalism, and commitment to public safety. His experience includes oversight of patrol operations, training initiatives, community engagement efforts, and departmental administration.

A promotional ceremony will be May 14th, 2026 at 6pm prior to the Village Board Meeting.

On April 30th, 2026, after many years of dedicated service to the community, Police Chief Michael Hartert has retired from the Summit Police Department.

Chief Hartert has proudly served the residents of the Village of Summit and surrounding communities with professionalism, integrity, and a strong commitment to public safety. His leadership emphasized community-oriented policing, officer professionalism, and the highest standards of service.
