Congratulations Ms. Helms on your nomination.

We are excited to share the finalists of Microburst Learning's Instructor Appreciation Contest, and we will announce the grand prize winner by the end of THIS WEEK!

We had an outstanding number of great submissions for this contest, and we had the distinct pleasure of reading ALL the entries about how these teachers have positively impacted their schools while implementing Microburst Learning EmployABILITY Soft Skills.

Here is a spotlight on one of the top 10 finalists, Christy Helms of Sumter Career and Technology Center. She was nominated by her students who said:

"She's the best teacher I've ever had and she does whatever she can to help you and give you good advice whenever you need her. She's more than a teacher to me."

"Ms. Helms always tells us how it's (EmployABILITY Soft Skills) going to benefit us in the future."

Way to go Ms. Helms! Thank you for making a difference in your school! Stay tuned this week for more highlights and find out who our grand prize winner!

Due to severe weather and hazardous winds, Monday, March 16, 2026, will be an eLearning day for all students and staff.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a potential threat for severe storms between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Possible impacts include hail, damaging to destructive wind gusts, and isolated tornadoes. Wind gusts could reach 60โ€“75 mph at times.
The South Carolina Department of Education advises limiting school bus operations when sustained winds exceed 30 miles per hour or when wind gusts exceed 40 miles per hour, as these conditions can significantly affect the safe operation of school buses.

On eLearning days, all schools and district offices are closed, and all activities, including athletic events and field trips, are canceled. As an approved eLearning district, this day will not need to be made up.

Lessons and assignments will be posted in Schoology. Students who are unable to participate due to power outages, limited internet access, or other barriers will be allowed to complete assignments at a later time.

Sumter School District works closely with emergency management and law enforcement officials when making decisions related to inclement weather. Our top priority is the safety of our students and staff.

Please remain safe.
