On 9/11 we remember the 343 firefighters who gave their lives and over 2,000 Americans who fell victim to the attacks.

In remembrance of these lives lost, members of the Sunman Rural Fire Department will be walking 3.43 miles in full turnout gear.

This event will be open to the public. If you would like to join us in this walk of remembrance, please meet at the Sunman Firehouse around 5:30 PM on Friday 9/11.
The walk will begin at 6:00 PM.

The storms that moved through our area this afternoon have caused quite a bit of damage. Some roads are impassable due to trees down and power lines in the trees. Power crews are working to remove trees and restore power, this will take awhile so please be patient and remember if you see a power line down stay away from it. If you have damage please report it to your county Emergency Management Agency.

🚨Winter Storm Safety Reminder🚨

As the upcoming winter storm approaches, we would like to share a few important safety reminders to help protect your home and assist us and other emergency responders.

Please help us by keeping fire hydrants clear of snow and ice.
If a hydrant is blocked, it can delay firefighting operations when seconds matter. Clearing a 3-foot area around hydrants in your neighborhood makes a significant and positive impact!

Keep exterior furnace, boiler, and stove vents clear of snow.
Snow accumulation can block exhaust and intake vents, potentially causing dangerous carbon monoxide (CO) buildup inside the home. Take a moment to:
• Check vents after heavy snowfall or drifting
• Gently clear snow and ice away from all exterior vents
• Ensure vents remain unobstructed throughout the storm

Additional winter safety tips:
• Use space heaters safely and keep them at least 3 feet from combustibles
• Never use outdoor heaters or generators indoors or in enclosed spaces
• Make sure working smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors are installed on every level of your home

Being proactive is the best way to help keep our community safe! Please stay safe and check on neighbors who may need assistance.

On December 29th at approximately 10:19 a.m., Manchester Township Fire and Rescue was dispatched to a residence on Platt Road for a reported structure fire with an elderly resident trapped inside the home.

Firefighters arrived quickly and were able to make entry, safely removing the resident from the home. Crews then worked swiftly to knock down the flames and prevent further spread of the fire.

Assisting on scene were Miller-York Fire, Sunman Fire, Milan Fire, Sunman EMS, and the Dearborn County Sheriff’s Office.
