Before it was Sunnyvale’s favorite comedy club, Rooster T. Feathers (then Andy Capp’s Tavern) made history. Fifty-four years ago, in September 1972, a tiny startup called Atari installed a rough prototype inside the tavern. It was a black-and-white TV crammed into a wooden cabinet with a milk carton inside to catch the coins.
They called it Pong! 🏓

A couple of weeks later, the bar manager called Atari in a panic: "The machine is broken! It won't take any more money!" The game’s designer Al Alcorn rushed over, opened the coin door, and found out it wasn't broken at all—but it was literally overflowing and jammed solid with quarters.

That overflowing coin box right here in Sunnyvale was the spark that ignited the multi-billion-dollar global video game industry. 🔥🎮

On Thursday afternoon, I joined many Sunnyvale Historical Society Members to unveil a plaque to this piece of Silicon Valley history. 🙏THANKS for Al Alcorn, that Atari founder, for showing up to talk about his story. 🙏THANKS to Heather, the owner of Rooster T Feathers, (the Mayor of Funnyvale🤣) who showed up for this special event.

Next time you catch a comedy show here, remember: you’re standing in the exact room where the world learned how to play. The plaque will be permanently installed soon, but in the meantime time go see a comedy show and enjoy your visit!

Last week, I had the pleasure of representing Sunnyvale at the 94th Annual Meeting of the United States Conference of Mayors (USCM) in Long Beach! 🙏THANKS to Long Beach Mayor Rex Richardson for hosting a great event and highlighting the best of his city!

It was wonderful connecting with Mayors from across California and the entire country to share solutions for the biggest challenges facing our cities today: housing, infrastructure, homelessness, sustainability, and economic mobility.

As Vice Chair of the Technology and Innovation Standing Committee, we had some fantastic, forward-looking discussions about datacenters, using AI, and much more.

Beyond tech, we had some heavy but necessary discussions on community health and wellness—including the impacts of the va**ng industry, expanding youth internships, and even practical hurdles like the rising costs of fire trucks.

We wrapped up the meeting by voting on key policy resolutions to guide USCMs national advocacy and electing a new leadership team. 🙏A huge THANK YOU to Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt for his incredible service as the outgoing President, and a massive CONGRATULATIONS to my friend, San Diego Mayor Todd Gloria, on becoming the USCM’s 84th President! 🎉

I am always, I’m so grateful for this non-partisan organization. I’m happy to continue bringing ideas home to keep Sunnyvale safe, healthy, and thriving!

Last week, Sunnyvale City Council proclaimed June as LGBTQ+ Pride Month!🏳️‍🌈
Vice Mayor Richard Mehlinger and Councilmember Alysa Cisneros joined me as we welcomed Saldy Suriben from the Santa Clara County Office of LGBTQ Affairs to speak at our meeting.

This year marks the 57th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots—the spark that ignited the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement. While we have come a long way, the community still faces rising social and legal opposition across the country.

In Sunnyvale, our values remain clear: we honor, support, and protect everyone. This month, and every day, we celebrate our vibrant LGBTQ+ community of residents, business owners, students, and city employees.

🏳️‍🌈 You can see the Pride Flag fly at Sunnyvale City Hall for the month of June, and there will be a Pride Event at Plaza Del Sol this Saturday afternoon. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

🏳️‍🌈 Please take time to celebrate our LGBTQ community, which includes many residents, business owners, city employees, and students. 🌈

Huge shoutout to Sunnyvale's very own 10 Butchers for being named by Yelp as part of the Top 100 Best BBQ Restaurants in the US for 2026! 🏆🔥

Ever since they opened their doors on El Camino Real back in October of 2019, 10 Butchers has been redefining the South Bay dining scene. Now, they are officially dominating the national stage.

When people think of the absolute best American barbecue, they usually think of low-and-slow Texas brisket or Carolina pulled pork—but 10 Butchers just proved that our local Silicon Valley upscale Korean BBQ operates on an entirely different level.

From the absolute melt-in-your-mouth premium A5 Japanese and US Wagyu to the impeccable tableside service and unmatched banchan and kimbap; this national recognition is incredibly well-deserved.

If you haven’t tried them for their quality meats, tableside grilling, or Korean delicacies, what are you waiting for? Your tastebuds will thank you. 🙏
