Beakers bubbling, goggles secured and curiosity activated!

Congratulations to Columbia Middle School seventh-grade science teacher Giselle Serafin, who has been named a 2026 RAFT STEAM Teacher of the Year!

Through hands-on labs and real-world exploration, Ms. Serafin helps students build confidence and recognize that science belongs to them.

“I want every student to understand that they are a scientist, they are capable and they can pursue this field if it is something they want to do,” Serafin said.

We were proud to welcome so many of our district and community partners as we celebrated our schools, our students and the incredible work happening across Sunnyvale.

Last week, Fairwood, Vargas, and Bishop set an inspiring tone for Back-to-School Nights across Sunnyvale, exemplifying our shared commitment to welcoming every student and family into a vibrant, inclusive, and supportive school community.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, September 1, we proudly welcome families to Cumberland, followed by Ellis on Wednesday, September 2, and San Miguel on Thursday, September 3. Together, we are building meaningful partnerships that strengthen student success and enrich the educational experience for every child. Sunnyvale School District’s commitment to positive, supportive learning environments has earned statewide recognition.

In the district’s first year applying to the California PBIS State Recognition System, all 10 schools received the 2025-26 Silver Implementation Award. The honor reflects more than a decade of work to create safer campuses, strengthen school culture and keep students supported and engaged in learning.

Whether you are helping in a classroom, supporting a school activity or lending a hand at a special event, there are many ways to get involved.
