Unearth a story with our summer reading kick off event. We'll have crafts, games, and activities, a scavenger hunt, and a special performer!

Puppet Art Theater Co presents Tommy's Pirate Adventure at 3 p.m.

Tommy’s back and he and his dog Fifi are enjoying living on Alligator Island, at least until the pirates show up. Pirate’s X’s and mixed-up treasure land Tommy and his dog in big trouble with Barnacle Billy and the evil Captain Rigatoni. Confusion and mayhem lead to school assembly fun as Tommy ends up playing pirates for real in “Tommy’s Pirate Adventure.”

Sign up now for Summer Reading

Grab a book. Read for fun. Challenge yourself. Our annual Summer Reading program is underway! Our theme this year is "Unearth a Story," so visit the Library all summer long for programs related to dinosaurs, history and unearthing your own story. Log books you finish between now and August 31 to win prizes for children, teens and adults.
Children and teens receive a free paperback book after signing up. To enter the grand prize drawings, children must read and log at least 5 books or 300 minutes, and teens must read 3 books or 180 minutes. Keep reading for more entries. Prize drawing tickets may be claimed throughout the summer at the Children's Information Desk.
Adults set their own goals this year! Read and log at least 1 book to receive a prize drawing ticket and $5 gift certificate for the Friends of the Library bookstore or book sales. Then keep reading to reach your own personal goal. Prize drawing tickets and gift certificates available in August at the Information Desk.
How to participate: Use the button below to sign in to your Beanstack account if you have one, or register if you don't. Join the reading challenge for your age group. Throughout the summer, use the "Log Reading" button at the top of the screen to log the number of books you have read.

Friday, August 28: Students' Day: We will invite our neighboring kids from Lakewood and Fairwood Schools to be among the first to explore the new spaces and participate in fun activities!

This week's FOTSVL sponsored events.
Thursday:
Classic Film Club: Paris Blues (1961)
* Date: 02/12/2026 1:00 PM - 3:00 PM
* Location: Sunnyvale Public Library665 W. Olive AveSunnyvale, California 94086

Rediscover time-honored treasures and under appreciated productions from across cinematic history as part of our Classic Film Club! Make sure to arrive on-time for an introduction to the selected film and get to know your neighbors with a post-screening discussion.
This month's screening is Martin Ritt's Jazz-ridden star vehicle, Paris Blues (1961). Ram Bowen (Paul Newman) and Eddie Cook (Sidney Poitier) are two expatriate Jazz musicians living in Paris where such artists are celebrated — and racism is a non-issue. When they meet and fall in love with two young American girls (Joanne Woodward, Diahann Carroll) vacationing in France, Ram and Eddie must decide whether they should move back to America with them or stay in Paris for the freedom it allows them. With an Oscar-nominated score from the legendary Duke Ellington, and an onscreen performance from none other than Louis Armstrong, Paris Blues is a feast for both the eyes and ears.
Classic Film Club will meet the 2nd Thursday of each month. All screenings take place in the Library Program Room.
Can't make it to the program? Watch the film on Kanopy with your library card!
