When conditions are hot, dry, and windy, a small spark or ember can quickly become an uncontrolled fire. Residents can help protect their homes, families, and community by taking a few simple precautions.
KNOW THE BURN BAN
Dallas County is currently under a burn ban that began July 27, 2026, and is in effect for 90 days. During a burn ban, residents should not conduct outdoor burning. Sunnyvale residents can help protect their homes, families, neighbors and first responders during this dry season by following these precautions:
🔥Do not burn when local authorities have prohibited burning.
🍃Never burn on dry, windy days when flames or embers could spread easily.
🚭Properly dispose of ci******es and smoking materials. Never throw cigarette butts from a vehicle or onto dry grass.
🚗Avoid parking vehicles on or near dry grass, with hot vehicle components.
🥘Use caution with grills and outdoor cooking equipment. Never leave them unattended near dry grass and structures.
🪨Allow charcoal and ashes to cool completely before disposal. Place them in a non-combustible container and away from combustible materials.
🧰Be careful when using lawn equipment, welding equipment, grinders, or other spark-producing tools. Avoid using this equipment around dry vegetation during windy conditions.
🌿Keep yards and areas around homes free of dead grass, leaves, brush and other combustible debris.
The Town of Sunnyvale also requires a burn permit for any outdoor burning when burning is allowed. Keep these tips in mind and ensure the safety of you and your community.
