Structure Fire – Shannon Circle

On 31 August 2026 at 1:51 pm, the Sunrise Beach Fire Protection received an alarm for a residential structure fire on Shannon Circle. Tanker 1244 was first to arrive on scene and advised one residence 50% involved. Tanker 1244 with two firefighters on board, deployed an attack line to the front door and began interior firefighting. Squad 12 arrived on scene and deployed a second attack line to protect the neighboring residence and propane tank. Firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions and extreme heat interior.

Upon arrival of Truck 12, a third attack line was deployed to attack the fire. Osage Beach Marine 12 arrived on scene and utilized their deck gun to attack the fire as well. Mid County Boat 92 arrived on scene and provided water supply to the engines on the hill. Sunrise Beach Marine 29 was held in reserve on scene.

The alarm was placed under control at 3:00 pm. Additional engines from Northwest FPD and Lake Ozark FPD were requested due to the extreme ambient temperatures and firefighters received rehab from Mercy Ambulance and Lake West Ambulance. The Missouri State Fire Marshal’s Office was requested to the scene to conduct an investigation. The cause shall be determined by their agency.

While returning units to service, an additional alarm was received at 3:48pm for a fully involved car fire on Deer Valley Rd. Truck 12 and Gravois Tanker 44 responded to that scene to extinguish the vehicle. A third call was then received at 3:52 pm for a medical on Long Acres Dr. Lake Ozark Engine 21 and Lake West Ambulance responded to that alarm.

Remaining units cleared the scene of the Shannon Circle fire at 5:43 pm. Sunrise Beach FPD responded with a tanker, a ladder, a rescue engine, a fire boat and two chief officers. Mutual Aid was provided by Gravois FPD (engine, tanker and chief officer), Mid County FPD (fire boat and engine), Osage Beach FPD (fire boat), Northwest FPD (tanker) and Lake Ozark FPD (engine).

Boat Fire at Frankie and Louie’s
29 August 2026

On Saturday, August 29, 2026, the Sunrise Beach Fire Protection District received an alarm for a residential structure fire on Hidden Valley Rd at 2:45 pm. Upon arrival, the first unit found a fire in the woods, with no extension into the residence. Truck 12 was cancelled and moved to Station 2 for coverage. The District then received an alarm at 3:05 pm for boat fire at the gas dock at Frankie and Louie’s. As other units were still engaged in the Hidden Valley call, Truck 12 responded to the scene, Chief 1200 responded to Station #1 to retrieve an additional engine.

Truck 12 arrived on scene to find a working boat fire. Engine 1212 requested an additional tanker from Gravois and a fireboat from Lake Ozark. Engine 1212 gave immediate water and the fire was brought under control as Gravois Tanker 44 arrived on scene. Rocky Mount Fire Boat 629 also arrived on scene and assisted with extinguishment. Squad 12 and Tanker 1244 were released from Hidden Valley, Squad 12 responded to the scene with Marine 39 and Tanker 1244 arrived on scene at Frankie and Louie’s.

Tanker 1244 was released shortly after arrival to cover the District, Marine 39 and Boat 22 from Lake Ozark were cancelled. One civilian was treated on the scene for a foot injury by Gravois Firefighters. The boat sank near the docks. No damage was sustained to business.

Sunrise Beach responded with a ladder truck, one engine, one tanker and a fireboat. Gravois FPD provided a tanker and manpower. Additional fire boats provided by Lake Ozark and Rocky Mount FPDs. Thanks to the bystanders who helped with a very long hose lay through the beach and docks. All units cleared the scene at 3:47 pm.

Retraction and Explanation

This past Friday I posted our Prop Fire Friday explaining potential savings for our residents. There was going to be a business slide as well, but I didn’t want to create confusion. However, in the slide posted I used the commercial numbers, calculating at the commercial assessment and not the residential. We want to make sure the proper information is always available to our residents, and I will always own up to a mistake. So, I must apologize for my error. Here are the proper calculations.

Assessment on residential in the State, Camden and Morgan Counties (we cover two counties) is 19% of market value. Home values are so varied in our District, I used a market rate “middle of the road" if you will ($500,000).

Bond Sunset – the rate of .1426 reduces to zero next year

$500,000 x 19% = 95,000 / 100 = 950 x .1426 (bond rate) = $135.47

General Revenue – the rate is currently .7853.

As discussed, with a sales tax, we must roll back 50% of what is collected in sales tax on the property tax side. Some fire districts have seen close to a 50% reduction in total property taxes when a sales tax is applied, however, I felt conservatively we could see a 20% reduction. I don’t ever want to mislead or get the community excited about a high number that may not happen. As we do not have a sales taxing district in place, no one can provide us a true number of what that reduction would be.

So here is how I came to these numbers:

$500,000 x 19% = 95,000 / 100 = 950 x .7853 (General Fund Tax) = 746.03 x .20 (potential sales tax roll back) = $149.20.

Total savings $284.67.

Some of our residents also saw as high as 300% increase in insurance rates due to the ISO grading in 2020. While we are waiting to be re-graded, Station 4 and Station 5 being staffed will substantially reduce those rates as well.

I hope this helps as we want our residents to make the most informed decision they can, any information we have is passed to you.
