Emergencies come in all forms and being prepared for whatever may come our way allows us to provide the very best service to our community. Yesterday, crews participated in our annual water rescue training. With the Deschutes running right along the west side of Sunriver there is an absolute need for welll trained water rescuers!

As we focus on Wildfire Awareness Month do you have your Go-Kit ready to go? If you had to leave quickly due to an evacuation, would you have what you need? Start today with a list of the items you HAVE TO HAVE for at least 72 hours such as medications, health management items such as oxygen or CPAP machines, important papers, clothes, some cash, food/water, pet supplies, flashlight, cellphone chargers, blanket, first aid, personal items and more. Once you have your list, begin compiling everything in easy to carry containers and identify the right place in your home to store them.

You can reach the call center at (541) 550-4888. If community members have questions or need help before or after the countywide test, they can call (541) 388-6501, and staff can help them update or confirm their Deschutes Alerts profile over the phone.

Deschutes County will be testing the Deschutes Alerts System on Wednesday at 1pm. If you have not signed up yet, now is the time! This is a critical part of relaying emergency information to our community.

On Wednesday, May 13, at 1:00 p.m., the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office and Deschutes County 9-1-1 will send a test message to about 72,000 people who have signed up for Deschutes Alerts.

Deschutes Alerts is the official emergency notification system used to warn residents and visitors about emergencies and evacuation orders in Deschutes County. Subscribers can receive messages via the app, text, email, or phone.

The purpose of Wednesday’s test is to help ensure that subscriber profiles are up to date. If you receive the test message on May 13, please confirm receipt by following the instructions. If you don't need to update anything in your profile, no further action is necessary.

For anyone who did not receive the message or would like assistance with your Deschutes Alerts profile, a call center will be open from 1:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on May 13.
