The Town of Sunset Beach was awarded a "U-Safe" rescue device along with the Town of Ocean Isle Beach as part of FP Tower Inc's 2026 Save a Life Raffle. Representatives from both towns were present for a demonstration of the device and to take ownership.
The U-Safe rescue device is a remote-controlled buoy that can be quickly sent to a swimmer in distress and can reach a considerable distance. The speed at which this device can reach a swimmer when seconds count is incredible. This is a valuable device to use in the event of an emergency and we are grateful to be selected for this donation.

Burn Ban Now in Effect 🚫🔥

The Brunswick County Fire Marshal is issuing a burn ban for the unincorporated areas within Brunswick County as of 5 pm. Monday, June 8, 2026. Read online: https://ow.ly/eIrm50Z92vl

Current and future weather forecast models indicate conditions that are not favorable to open burning, particularly due to increasing drought conditions and fire danger risks for this week.

All burning within 100 feet of any structure is banned within the unincorporated areas of Brunswick County. An unincorporated area is an area not within a city or town’s limits. If you are located in a city or town, contact your local municipal official related to the burn ban.

The burn ban does not apply to any open burning permits issued by the N.C. Forest Service.

All open burning of natural vegetation outside 100 feet of an occupied dwelling requires a permit from the North Carolina Forest Service. In addition, the NC Dept of Environmental Quality may require additional permits for certain types and locations of burning.

The burn ban will remain in place until conditions improve. Brunswick County will send out a notice when it is lifted and/or to communicate any necessary safety updates related to the burn ban. If you are renting out your home, your guests’ safety should be the first item on your "to-do" list. Before the next guest checks in, take these two quick steps to ensure everyone has a safe stay:
1. Check those alarms: Ensure every sleeping area and hallway has a working, tested smoke alarm. A few seconds spent hitting the "test" button could be the difference between a minor incident and a tragedy.

2. Provide a "Safety Cheat Sheet": Leave a simple note for your guests. Include:
• The exact address (so they can provide it to 911 if needed).
• The location of the nearest fire extinguisher.
• The easiest exit routes in case of an emergency.
• A reminder to check the stove before heading to the beach.
• Grilling safety instructions. (10 feet away from the home).

Being a great host means being a safe host. Let’s keep Sunset Beach beautiful and, most importantly, fire-safe for everyone. 🚒

Please join us at the Ocean Isle Community Center on Wednesday, June 17 at 9:00 a.m. as FPTower.org presents the Sunset Beach Fire Department NC and Ocean Isle Fire Department with a U Safe Lifesaving Buoy.

East Main Street between 4th and 5th will remain closed due to a water line break that compromised the integrity of the road. Crews are on site at this time working to fix the water line and once this is completed, the road will need to be repaired.

We will keep you updated on this work and hope yo have Main Street open to through traffic soon.

Affected residents in the area that cannot travel this road will use side streets for parking in the interim.

🔥 Don’t let your BBQ turn into a blaze!

Grilling season is in full swing here in Sunset Beach! Before you fire up the grill this weekend, follow these safety tips from your local firefighters to keep your cookout worry-free:

✅ Keep your distance: Always place your grill well away from siding, pinestraw, deck railings, and out from under eaves or low-hanging branches. ✅ Clean it out: Grease buildup is the #1 cause of grill fires. Give those grates and the catch pan a good scrub before you start. ✅ Stay focused: Never leave a lit grill unattended. Keep children and pets at least 3 feet away from the "grill zone." ✅ Propane safety: Check your hoses for leaks or cracks before your first use of the season. ✅ Be ready: Always have a fire extinguisher or a bucket of sand nearby—just in case!
