🔥 Don’t let your BBQ turn into a blaze!

Grilling season is in full swing here in Sunset Beach! Before you fire up the grill this weekend, follow these safety tips from your local firefighters to keep your cookout worry-free:

✅ Keep your distance: Always place your grill well away from siding, pinestraw, deck railings, and out from under eaves or low-hanging branches. ✅ Clean it out: Grease buildup is the #1 cause of grill fires. Give those grates and the catch pan a good scrub before you start. ✅ Stay focused: Never leave a lit grill unattended. Keep children and pets at least 3 feet away from the "grill zone." ✅ Propane safety: Check your hoses for leaks or cracks before your first use of the season. ✅ Be ready: Always have a fire extinguisher or a bucket of sand nearby—just in case!

Let’s keep our community safe while we enjoy these beautiful beach evenings. Happy grilling! 🍔🌭

🚨 NEW “NO SWIMMING – HERE TO PIER” SIGNAGE IS UP! 🚨

The Town of Sunset Beach installed safety signs by the pier this morning to protect you and your loved ones. Swimming in this zone is prohibited—the risks are real and can be life threatening.

Why the “No Swim” Zone is Critical ⚠️
• Dangerous Currents – Strong tidal flows can pull swimmers toward the pier’s wooden pylons, which are covered in sharp barnacles that cause severe lacerations.
• Hidden Underwater Hazards – fish hooks and lures can easily ensnare swimmers.
Under Sunset Beach Town Ordinance 95.31, it is unlawful to swim in the Atlantic Ocean area marked by the “NO SWIMMING—HERE TO PIER” signs.

Safety Recommendations for All Beach goers ✅
• Respect the Signs – If you see a “No Swimming – Here to Pier” sign, simply move a little further down the beach to enjoy the water safely.
• Check Flag Conditions – Always verify the rip current flag color before entering the surf.
• Stay Vigilant – Keep a close eye on children and less experienced swimmers at all times. Always swim with a buddy.
