☀️ EXTREME HEAT WARNING ☀️

The Sunset Valley Police Department encourages everyone to take extra precautions as dangerous heat and high heat indexes impact Central Texas today.

💧 Drink plenty of water—even if you don't feel thirsty.
🌳 Limit outdoor activities and take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
👕 Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing, a hat, and sunscreen.
🐾 Don't forget your pets—bring water for them and avoid walking on hot pavement.
👶👵 Check on children, older adults, neighbors, and anyone who may be more vulnerable to the heat.

Know the warning signs of heat-related illness. If someone becomes confused, loses consciousness, or has a body temperature above 103°F, move them to a cooler place, begin cooling them immediately, and call 9-1-1.

Stay weather aware, stay hydrated, and help keep our community safe.

Weather Update | Flood Watch in Effect 🌧️

A Flood Watch is in effect for our area until Thursday, July 16, at 9:00 p.m. Heavy rain is expected to continue through this afternoon and into tomorrow, with the potential for localized flooding across the Austin area.

The City of Sunset Valley is actively monitoring conditions. At this time, there are no flooded roadways or areas within the city, but staff will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as needed.

If you encounter high water:
🛑 Never drive around barricades.
🛑 Do not walk, swim, or drive through floodwaters.
🛑 As little as 6 inches of water can make driving dangerous.
🛑 Turn Around, Don't Drown!

Please stay weather aware, use caution while traveling, and continue to monitor local forecasts. Your safety is our top priority.

With heavy rain in the expected forecast there is a chance of flooding in Austin. If you encounter high water on the roadway, don’t attempt to drive through it. As little as 6 inches of water can cause unsafe driving conditions.

Last night, during our Bee Safety Presentation, we were honored to recognize Sergeant Biggs for his courage and bravery during a bee attack incident that occurred in May. His quick actions and commitment to protecting others exemplify the dedication and service our community is fortunate to have in its public safety professionals.

We would also like to extend our sincere gratitude to the many community members who stepped in to assist during the incident. Your willingness to help one another reflects the strength, compassion, and resilience that make our community so special.

A special thank you goes to Elissa Sexton for presenting last night's Bee and Wasp Safety program. Her expertise and valuable information provided attendees with important safety tips, awareness, and practical knowledge for responding to bee and wasp encounters.

In recognition of the Juneteenth holiday, all City of Sunset Valley facilities, with the exception of the Police Department, will be closed on Friday, June 19th, and will resume normal business hours on Monday, June 22nd. We wish everyone a safe and meaningful observance.
