Today, as we gather with family and friends to enjoy the long weekend, the Sunset Police Department pauses to solemnly honor and remember the brave men and women of our Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom. We also hold the families and loved ones of our fallen heroes in our hearts and prayers.

🔥 BURN BAN LIFTED – ST. LANDRY PARISH 🔥

St. Landry Parish Government announces that the parishwide burn ban issued on February 13, 2026, has been lifted effective immediately.

Residents are still encouraged to exercise caution when conducting any outdoor burning and remain mindful of changing weather conditions.

The Sunset Police Department is currently accepting applications for a full-time dispatcher position. To qualify, applicants must hold a High School Diploma or equivalent, possess a valid driver's license, and maintain a clean record with no criminal history. Benefits include paid vacation and health benefits. Interested individuals can submit their applications at 139 Castille St, Sunset, LA 70584.

St Landry Parish Veteran’s Memorial will be hosting a Commemoration & Recognition Ceremony for Vietnam Veterans on March 28th.

ALL Vietnam Veterans and their families are invited to attend the Recognition Ceremony held in their honor.
