Town Council Meeting Recap
I want to begin with appreciation and gratitude for our Town Council. Their leadership, dedication, and commitment to thoughtful decision-making are what help ensure that our projects continue serving the residents of Superior today and well into the future. The work we are doing takes time, collaboration, and vision — and I am grateful for a Council that remains focused on moving our community forward.
Last night, we hosted our final work session and public hearing on selecting an alternate land use plan for our airport and land exchange properties. This was an exciting and important decision, as it helps set the course for Superior’s long-term future development. ✈️
Council selected Option 3, which allows us to plan for more highway retail space while moving airport and aeronautical services to the south of the runway. This planning work is an important step toward creating new opportunities for economic growth and responsible development.
Council also took action on several major projects and agreements:
✅ Approved contracts for electrical work and elevator construction at the Multi-Gen Center in the amount of $902,363, funded through a Congressional Directed Spending allocation.
✅ Approved the purchase contract for our brand new Pierce Enforcer Pumper TR680 fire truck in the amount of $1,011,037.80. This is also funded through a Congressional Directed Spending award and grant match from Resolution Copper. Now that the contract is signed, construction can begin on our new fire truck. Thank you Senator Mark Kelly & Senator Ruben Gallego for your support for our new firetruck! 🚒
✅ Approved a new IGA with Pinal County Animal Control to ensure animal control services are clearly outlined and adequately provided. 🐕
✅ Approved a resolution allowing staff to apply for a SMART Fund grant to repair damage to Sunset Drive and Panther Drive caused by the Arizona Department of Transportation Queen Creek Bridge project. Fingers crossed this funding is awarded so we can make those much-needed repairs.🛑
✅ Authorized Town Manager Todd Pryor to sign a lease agreement with the Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management to lease a portion of our current Town Hall for their regional fire headquarters. DFFM is expected to move into the offices in July. This will bring additional fire protection services to Superior, and as part of the rent agreement, DFFM will maintain our fire breaks — saving the Town roughly $100,000 per year in fire break maintenance costs. 🔥
These are the kinds of decisions that move Superior forward — improving public safety, investing in infrastructure, supporting long-term economic development, and making sure we are planning carefully for the future.👏🫶
Have a wonderful weekend everyone!
Together, we are Superior.
